You are going to have to shut him out of the areas for a while. They need to be completly cleaned and deodorized. Think back. Did some sort of scary situation happen out doors?
Did you leave him alone overtime and make him find a place to go on his own? Is he having digestive problems that make it hard to wait to go out? This could be a problem of pet management.
If the answer to all the above is negative, he may need retraining which means watching him carefully for signs of needing to go out and taking him out immediately. They sniff, hunt, etc. usually soon after a meal. If not that, confining him to an area where he is also fed and watered will encourage him to wait for you to take him out.
There is always the chance of a medical problem when a good pet "breaks" training.
Consider these things. Age is another factor. As they get older their schedule can change, just like with older people.

close the bedroom doors, leave paper in front of them, and restart your house training again. Something happened to your dog, someone hurt it,scared it, and now your animal is afraid to go outside. Who has been walking the dog lately? Maybe they have hit the dog, when he was going to the bathroom. Let will do it every time. A dog needs time to go, he needs to "smell" the sent of "other" animals, that is what "triggers" the release of these "bodily functions" - A dog can have only ONE owner,ONE leader. Look at the group this dog is interacting with and resolve the problem. It is in the home, and it is NOT the dog's Fault!

take a few steps back in the house training. Don't let your dog out of your sight. Take him out more frequently. Reward with treats when he goes outside. Interrupt and rush him outside if you catch him going in the house. DON'T punish for accidents. That will just reinforce the habit of him hiding where he goes... i.e. going under the bed where you can't see him and hit or rub his nose in it (I'm not saying that you have done this, just saying it doesn't work well) Crate train him and then crate him when you cannot watch him. Make sure to look up "crate training" and to follow the steps carefully. Proper training will insure the he loves and feels safe in his crate. improper crating will cause him to hate and resist the crate, and could even end with him hurting himself in the crate. You can try peels from oranges scattered around under your bed.Dogs don't care for the smell of oranges.When you do this be sure you have a puppy pad next to your bed so they get the hint.Or be ready to grab the lil' guy when he comes out to get away from the oranges and get him outside right away.
If this doesn't work try crating him while you are away from home.

What you should do is give him a spanking. Dogs are just like children. Give him just a little pop with a newspaper or flyswatter. Tell him what he has done is bad and he shouldn't do it. Take him out about every 3-4 hours, after he plays around in the house, before you go to bed and after you get up in the morning. I did this to my dog when he was young and now he lets me know when he has to go out.

If you think he is doing this when you leave to go somewhere or at night when you are sleeping, put him in a crate when you leave or at night when you sleep. Thoroughly clean the area that has been used with a product recommended to break down the scent.
If that doesn't work, check with a trainer in your area that troubleshoots this sort of problem behavior.

how many in ur family? and this is serious-WHOSE been mean to him???kids sometimes are mean enuff to cause trauma to animals without meaning to...then again-how about ur spouse?ask the outside frens too...that happened to my shepard..she used to stand at attention for drill ...guns dinna bother her....one day we went out for a few hours and when we got back she was TERRIFIED...esp.when a dude we know to be cruel to ppl even had been to our haus...HE did something to her to cause her EXTREME fear...she died shortly after,,,she did the same thing....SO if you love your friend then STICK up for your friend...

whatever you do do not beat him this only teaches him that its not okay to go potty. just watch him when you see that he has to go take him out. you should take him out frequently anyways
