I have social anxiety as well, it got really bad over the last year. My doctor put me on Lexapro once a day..and I have a prescription for Alprazolam for "when I need it"...I still have anxiety attacks every now and then but I take an alprazolam and I'm better almost instantly...it's the only combo that has worked for me. Give it a shot - there are no side effects that I've experienced either so that is good! Good luck ;-)

Hello there! I'm sorry to hear you have social anxiety, but let me add that my fiance sufferes from the same and all these years watching him I learned one thing is sure - it is curable :) and it's really good to know that! He is getting better, but it's important that you stay in contact with out world- getting closed makes you just more fearfull. It's very good also that you have therapy, my fiance has it too and it relaly helps a lot!
Maybe this site would make you feel better, I don't know how big are your symptoms but you can see over it that you are not alone and you might find out from others some ways to cope better.

Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error to find the right medication to help you. Sometimes it take a "cocktail" of medications and it takes a while to find just the right mix for you. If you are not happy with the way your doctor is handling your specific case then by all means find another. You should not have to live like this and there are great doctors out there who really can help you. I am sorry that you are going through this. I hope you have a wonderful blessed day. :)

Boy lots of medicine and no advise. Here is something that will WORK and you can get over it. You have to start slowly approaching social events very slowly. I know it is really hard but when they say "face your fears" it really works. I am not saying it takes one or two days it takes many, many, many social settings to get over it. You may always struggle with social anxiety but you can get comfortable about the social environment if you slowly face your fears.

Try kava, you can get it at any health food store and even some grocery stores. Science claims it is the equivalent to Valium/xanax but it is much more effective.

Try a natural food store, they have the a flower remedy (it's called the rescue remedy) they will know what your talking about. Try B vitamens and calcium, B is good for mental health and calcium is a natural calmer. I always try natural first. Doctors are not trained in nutrition.

TRY SOMETHING RADICAL ...IT DOES WORK, START TALKING TO YOURSELF IN YOUR MIND. WHAT EVER CAUSES THE STRESS CAN BE MADE RID OF BY SPEAKING IT FROM YOUR MOUTH. FOR EXAMPLE YOU GO IN PUBLIC AND THINK: WHY ARE THEY STARING?WHAT R THEY THINKING? ETC" JUST START LOOKING FOR GOOD THINGS TO SAY FROM YOUR MOUTH LIKE DANG I LIKE HIS TIE, LOOK AT THAT PRETTY PICTURE, I KNOW IT SEEMS KINDA CORNY BUT IT WORKS. AND AS YOU KNOW THE MORE YOU DO IT THE EASIER IT GETS. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. OR WELL, ONE OTHER THING , THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME...PRAY,GIVE IT ALL TO JESUS AND TRUST HIM TO CARE FOR YOU AS HE ALREADY DOES AND HONEST TO GOD THE MORE YOU LEARN TO TRUST HIM THE MORE THAT WILL LWEAVE YOU. I KNOW BC THE DOCS SAID I WAS BIPOLAR,OCD,W/SEVERE ANXIETY AND PANIC... I HAVE BEEN FREE FROM ALL MEDS SINCE JUNE 06 AND HAPPIER THAN EVER. IT WORKS TO KNOW THAT NO MATTER WHAT THEIR IS SOMEONE THAT WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR BACK, GOOD LUCK AND SERIOUSLY ...PRAYER HELPED ME WHEN NO MEDICATION IN THE WORLD DID . INCLUDING XANAX,PAXIL,GEODON,ZOLOFT,EFFEXOR,HALDOL,KOLONIPIN, SOMA,WELBUTRIN,AND 25 OR MORE THAN THOSE. THANK GOD HE MADE ME FREE.

Why do people think they can take a pill to solve there problems? Oh i know, because that's what our society deems acceptable today. You have a thinking problem that needs professional attention that does NOT include taking any pills.
