The main symptom is hair loss. This begins on their back, and moves down the tail and the legs. It gets really painful for them when it's that advanced, as it gets between their pads. Take your dog to the vet if you suspect he has it, because the vet should be able to prescribe a simple medication to clear it up.

Hopefully, you have caught it early, when only a little of the back is affected. The dog will be very itchy. It is transmissable to humans and other dogs (as it's a mite), so keep him away if at all possible.

Good luck!!!

There are two types of mange, demodetic and sarcoptic. Demodetic begins as small patches of itchy reddend hairless skin on the back or shoulders. It can become generalised demodictosis if not treated and the dog has a weak immune system. General demodictosis affects the entire body and face and is often accompanied by open sores or blood blisters filled with infected blood. Generalised mange often cant be cured. Demodetic mange is present on all dogs but they are not affected unless something happens to weaken the immune system and the mites multiply out of control. Sarcoptic mange often is hair lose on the rump and elbows. It very itchy and inflammed. Both can be diagnosed by a skin scrape at the vet. Treatment is easier and cheaper than you might think.

bald spots on dogs...mange is like a mite that gets in the dogs skin and hair. it irritates them, they scratch endlessly, as a result they lose their hair and their skin looks raw.
