Drink a bottle of Citrate of Magnesium. You can ask the pharmacist to help you to find it on the shelf. It starts working in as little as 1 hour. Be at home when you do this and does not cause the usual cramping that laxatives do. I also have had a bowel re-section so I have to drink this periodically. I have tried virtually everything there is, and this is the best. Everything else listed either caused severe stomach cramps, no relief for hours, or did not work at all.

Most laxatives are going to take some time to work their way through your body and soften the stool. About the best you're going to find is one that works overnight like Colace Overnight. You're best off with a microenema like ones made by Fleet.

Another vote here for Citrate of Magnesium. That stuff works like the Super Lax from Dumb and Dummer, if you've ever seen the movie. I thought it tasted more like super sour lemon-lime soda without any sugar. Make sure you have a comfy toilet seat.

Prune juice and Tequilla.

In between each drink take a shot of castor oil.

Then call off work for the next week.

Those chocolate bar laxatives work quite well, just be sure to read the instructions.

Apple juice really seems to get me, ah this is gonna seem really bizarre probly but I know i'm not the only one that has done it but if you first really relax while on the toilet and w/the tip of your finger you can wear gloves stimulate just the vary begining of your you know kinda message it alittle it kinda works like an saposatory just free it makes the waste come down and easier to push out it just hasnt moved down far enough to cause a bowel movement theres nothing wrong with being aware and effective w/your own body plus it works sorry if you really didnt want to know that but again its true Good Luck KIMBUR

If you want something that works really fast (and I mean really fast, don't be too far from the bathroom) buy a bottle of magnesium sulfate. You can buy it at any pharmacy and usually at the grocery store.

It tastes awful, it tastes like kool-aid with about a pound of salt in it, but it really works!

You can purchase stool softeners over the counter.
The best time to take it is at bedtime.
Laxatives cause too much discomfort.
Another good remedy is mineral oil, also taken at bedtime.
