I was out of the country for two months when she told me after buying it. I was planning to move in with her in the near future (I didn't tell her this until after she bought the pup), but I don't think that I can live with a dog. I don't want the responsibility and dogs smell up the apartment. Most importantly, she didn't ask me first and it affects the dynamics of our entire relationship. I feel like she adopted a child without asking mne first.

But she didn't even consider my feelings! She told me that she didn't ask because she knew that I would say no, but assumed that I would just accept it.

i believe the consensus is you should be happy that she got a dog instead of having a second bf. You have no right to demand that she ask you first when purchasing things that make her happy, especially when you are out of the country for two months and not expressing your future plans with her. The fact that you are dwelling on her not asking you first leads me to think that you are a bit of a control freak. Get over it. It's a dog. A dog that makes your girlfriend happy. Dont you want her to be happy?

The fact that it is her place entitles her to do anything she wants there, she doesn't have to ask you.
If you have your own place you don't have to worry about her dog...
What makes you think she wants you to move in with her?????
If you were gone for 2 months, she was probably lonely and this pup who hasn't done anything wrong to you helped keep her company ... Better a pup then another man...
Think this one over before you get all huffy....
If a pup ruins the dynamics of your relationship, you have a serious problem here......
Do yourself and her a favour and stay at your place and don't move into hers...

your not marrried to her so she doesnt need your permission to buy a dog or anything else. but you can always tell her how you feel an see what she says! like others said maybe she was lonley when you were gone for a few months and a pup is better then havin another man in her house!!!!!.

Your girlfriend can do anything she wants without having to check with you - especially if you don't live with her. Perhaps if she had known your intentions, she would have discussed it with you first - but given that she didn't know, you are expecting too much. If you aren't a dog person, and she is, perhaps you should move on - dogs are family members too.

Her puppy, her business.
If you're unable to live with a dog, then you two should live separately.
It should be noted that you already have a 'married' relationship with her, just without the legal papers. So I understand on why you were upset when she do things without your consent.

Why would her getting a dog without asking you upset you so bad? There are plenty of dogs that don't smell. I've never asked my husband if it was ok to get any cat or dog that I have.

Well the thing is you two aren't married and seeing as how you don't live together yet she had full right to do that if it were a kid then it would be completly different.

tell her how you feel and try to compromise. since she didn't ask you maybe the dog could be her responsibility? don't give up your relationship because of a puppy. i nagged my husband for a bird i know, i asked him first but i didn't leave him alone when he said no. he basically gave in to shut me up and now, its his bird!!! give it a shot. good luck.
