I had one of my birds die from flying in to a fan. There are just too many things that are harmful in the home for birds. One, cooking on the stovetop, candles, ciggerettes, flying to the floor and being stepped on, flying into the window and breaking their neck, falling down stairs, flying into a wall and breaking a leg or wing etc. No exotic bird can live in the weather here in NJ, so flying outside in a death sentence. Most would starve before they would learn how to forage and many other things. I mean really, would you let a toddler have the possiblity of roaming the house, falling into a toilet and drowning or sticking his hand on a stove, no, because you watch him and take whatever actions need be to keep them safe. All a wing clipping is, is a hair cut for birds. It does not hurt and it does not stop them from flying completely, just stops them from flying up so that then can't fly in a tree and get lost.
Sorry, the anger is not pointed toward question asker, just some people don't realized how dangerous it can be. Even if you are careful a friend or kid that comes into your home may let it loose. Just be careful!

This really depends. Some people think is only safe to clip birds wings. The pros of this are that your bird can't ascape though a open door or window. But some people say it is unhealthy for birds not to be able to fly. Talk to your vet about whats best for you and your budgie!

absolutely not. It is another daft American idea. Budgies are made to fly. Preventing it from flying will make it very unhappy and can lead to it's death from being sat or trodden on, trapped in doors, or killed by other pets since they cannot get out of the way quickly using the method nature intended. I wish they would make it illegal like tail docking.
I have over 40 parrots including 6 indoors, but have had many more indoors, not one was clipped.
Clipping, like feeding pellets, is designed for the convenience of lazy bird owners, not for the health or happiness of the bird.

Don't listen to those other people. Budgies will NOT die from sadness from having their wings clipped. However, they will die if they fly into a moving fan, a toilet, a window, or escape outside never to be seen again.

mine are not clipped, they flew into a window once and never again. they go through the whole house. when they come out, they dont go near their cage for at least 5 hours but they like it. its okay either way, do what you feel comfortable with. clipping is good for training also, and there is less chance they will fly away.

I've two budgies and a cocktail and I've never had to clip there wings.i would with larger birds but not budgies.try getting them on to your hand so they get used to you and your voice, then when you feel ready let them have a fly about in the room they ll be in to get them used to it then they should learn where their cage is.i can leave my birds cage door open when I'm home and they can come in and out of there cage as they please

I don't think its better to get the wings clipped. Keep windows and doors shut when your bird is free.

There are a lot of factors to consider.
Where do you live? Will your budgie potentially be able to fly out windows or doors? Will it be near the kitchen?
Here is a good budgie site. Among other things, it discusses the pros and cons of clipping
http://www.budgietalk.com
Personally I like to keep mine about half-flighted.
