Protestants believe that the bible is the authority. They teach what Christ and the apostles taught.
Catholics believe that the pope is the authority. They teach the traditions that he makes up. Many of these traditions go against the teaching of christ. This is the reason that the Protestants separtated from the Catholic church.

The difference between we Catholics and protestants is:
1. We believe in Faith and good works. Protestants believe that if you have Faith you are automatically saved.
2. We follow the Pope.
3.We go to a priest for forgiveness of our sins
because he takes the place of Christ on earth.
4.We worship the Blessed Mother and saints which protestants don't.
5. We receive the body of Our Lord.
6. We're the True Church.:)

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

Protestants believe they are the true church.
Catholics believe they are the true church.
Can't find a distinction there.

Catholicism; the Pope is the final authority over what you should believe; Do as we say and you get the magic cookie every week that'll get you into Heaven.

Protestantism: YOU YOURSELF are the final authority of what you should believe, and you should make important decisions yourself. "Well here's what I think, but do what you think is best...."

I'm a little biased, obviously.
