I have never heard of it being unethical to eat cod....that's a new one on me. I eat it all the time and it is outstanding. In fact, I like most fish. Some species can be very fishy tasting or boney, so many people avoid those for obvious reasons, but once you learn how to properly cook fish, you can make just about anything taste delicious. Perhaps you are referring to eating fish that have dwindling numbers in the wild? Efforts are being made to help these fish make a comeback, so fishing for them is either restricted or forbidden. Usually, the fish you catch or purchase will be species that are very palateble as well as ethical to eat, so don't worry about it being unethical to eat a fish. Try several different varieties and determine what your favorite taste and texture is and then eat all you want!

Eating some types of fish is not ethical because of the depleting fish stocks of some types of fish. I'm surprised how many people don't know about it. Cod is the worst affected but also monkfish, haddock, hake, skate, tuna, salmon and tropical prawns and more. I've switched from cod to Alaskan pollock which is the most plentiful fish in the world and tastes virtually the same.

Ethical issues mostly apply to Kosher dietary laws, Kosher laws allow the consumption of fish because they have gills, orthodox laws prohibits the consumption of shellfish, lobster crab or mussel/clams.
Some people believe that farmed fish is cruel due to the fact they are penned up, but in 15-20 years once all the ocean have been depleted of the wild population all our fish will be farmed, it takes 18 months for a salmon or trout from a farmed environment to become market ready.
Lobsters are being experimented to be farmed in Newfoundland Canada, but in the wild they take 7 years to grow to one poun, which may make it impossible to produce, ethics are a personal choice, like vegetarianism and Lactose free is a health choice.

tuna and cat fish are generally not good for you because they are bottom feeders/cleaners of their habitat floor. Honestly, you should eat the fish that is good for YOUR body. See what suits your tastes, make sure you don't have any fish allergies and rock it out!
