Yes, I think you should ask for a phone. Over 90% of 12 to 17 year old have cell phones, so I definitely think should get one. I recommend Virgin mobile, their plans are reasonable and their Snapper phone has everything you would expect: camera, picture messaging, text, and more. Either that, or a Tracfone is a good alternative. They both have prepaid plans.

If you think they will say no becasue of the cost, offer to do chores around the house or help some neighbors to earn some money to buy the phones and the prepaid cards.

Just make sure your phone is a full-fledged cell phone, not one of those Firefly phones or Migo phones.

Another perk of prepaid: no bill=no call history. *wink*

I really think you should have one too for safety, but the whole taking pictures and text messaging the friends is another story. Just promise her you will pay the difference if it goes over on the monthly bill. Some good points you could make: If you're getting yourself off/on the bus...what happens when you forget your house keys? What if the bus is running late? Forgot something for school or any other kind of emergency.

offer a compromise. tell them you are willing to earn the phone through chores or an increase in school grades. if they see you are willing to work for it, they may want to reward you with an incentive. if all else fails ask for a prepaid phone where you won't spend more money than is budgeted, you'll just have to conserve your minutes as much as possible. Good Luck!

you're more likely to have something happen to you on the way home if you're with a phone. some people got murdered for their phone

try repecting his wish for a time, if you can't think of a reason you need a phone then be honest and just say it's because everyone else has them and you're left out, don't lie to your pop !

If you walk home from school tell him that u can get kidnapped and may have a chance to call for help. tell him that if u got a cell phone then he would be able to check and see if you are ok every once in a while

I agree with your father, you're too young to have a phone . Unless it's one of the restricted ones. Suggest the Disney mobile, which is like a regular phone but your parents still have a form of control!

my daughter is 12..my brother & sister-in-law got her a pre-paid minute phone..she gets 300min every 3rd mth. they got it at wal-mart...but, she has to earn those min....by keeping her grades up and being good.."which she is".
she also goes to their home twice a month on wk-ends and helps out where is needed..she never goes under her min....she has to do this for 1 year. and then if she does great with a min phone..then they will get her a real cell phone....it is a great idea for her to have this.....emergency use for real...talk to your dad again, and share this with him....goodluck

Negotiate with him. If he will let you have your own phone, you will promise to do (whatever it is) for him on a regular basis--like cutting the grass or some other chore.
