Well, you could always start a protester hunt. We " cruel " Canadians can just hunt the protesters for our lunch buckets. Unfortunately, that doesn't help the seals, fish, bears and narwhale, as the seals are being culled because THEY are overpopulated and are now actually starting to die off through starvation and disease because of this overpopulation. Some of those diseases are being spread to the fish stocks. Guess who eats that fish, yup, Seals do. No fish...no seals. No seals...no bears...getting the idea?
So, I suppose once we've managed to get mother nature back on track, yes, we'll stop hunting seals and we'll hunt protesters. We might even skin a few for boots.
I'm pretty sure that you didn't have a close look at the date of the film that the protesters like to show. Ummm, seals, notably white coats, haven't been clubbed, culled or harvested in any form, in this country since 1987. That little baby seal you want to protect, is already protected. None are killed. No adult seal is clubbed either. It's all very old propaganda footage that protesters like to dish out to the ill informed.
When are these protesters going to wake up and realize that it's not about one animal type, it's about an entire ecosystem.
Remember this, though. Before you get on that plane to come here, look out the terminal windows and count how many birds and deer you see roaming around out on the tarmac. Then ask yourself how many have been sucked into jet engines on takeoff lately, killing that poor animal. Ohh..yeah and those other things on the plane.Ya know...those people. Isn't it for the greater good, that birds and deer are discouraged and yes, killed on airport properties. Your countries airport properties. Have you no shame. Tut tut, after all...think of Bambi.

The Seal Hunt off the Shores of Canada is such a difficult issue.
Yes, the seal pups are cute. Yes, bashing them over the head and crushing their skull and brain is unpleasant to watch.
But, remember this is not done for fun. It is done for a variety of reasons.
The seal population on the East Coast of North America is out of control. Seals have now been seen as far east as Boston Harbour.
They eat tonnes of fish. Where are the Cod now? Gone! Over fishing, no not as much as seals eating the fish stock. The killing of seal pups is way to control mother nature gone wrong. A balance has to be re-established. Why not kill the adult seals? Because they are of no economic value.
The seal hunt provides an income for the local men involved in the industry. Many say well let them earn a living by fishing. Well, the seals have eaten the fish and they are not allowed to fish. It is a viscous circle.
People continue to whine about the seal hunt while munching on a steak or hamburger or chicken sandwhich. The animals from which these meats have been harvested are not as cute. So, wearing leather as a jacket or a belt or shoes is politically fine. But, show a cute animal at the moment of death and the picture changes. If TV crews covered the day to day activities of Cattle Slaughtering plants, Fowl prep plants or hog rendering plants, the cry would be much different. Will this ever happen? Not a chance. Thus US economy stands to loose to much if a backlash occurs against the beef industry.
Remember, such hunts are done for a reason. It is not a sport. It is an environmental and economic reality. And also remember, it is thought by some that by 2050 or earlier, the world's fish stocks will be depleated. No fish for us and no fish for the seals. So, what happens then?

I need to put in my two cents. This is a topic I get very angry about.
Yes, it's admirable to want to stop needless suffering of animals, but be sure to research everything first. *Is* it needless? And are they actually suffering?
Do you know *why* seals are killed? Think about it... When magpies or gophers are eating up a farmers field, they are killed. When mice or rats are running around people's homes, they are killed. Whenever a type of animal or pest is harming the people around it, it is killed.
Don't just listen to celebrities who want to look good for the media. Think of all the consequences. Yes, baby seals are very cute. But guess what? They are really harming the people around them! They are just like magpies and rats, in that they are eating all the resources around them!
Listen, the Maritimes, and especially Newfoundland, DEPEND on fishing cod for *survival*. Fish is virtually the only resource the province has (other than maybe tourism). But since all this hullabaloo about "killing the cute baby seals" has come about, seal hunting has been drastically reduced. And guess the outcome of that? There is a HUGE *overpopulation* of seals on Canada's east coast. They have eaten all the fish! The numbers of cod have been seriously reduced, dangerously low, so much so they have nearly disappeared in that area.
Now the province of Newfoundland has become very poor, with an extremely high unemployment rate. The number of people leaving the province to look for work elsewhere has skyrocketed.
In my opinion, human life is more important than animal life. I'm not saying we can treat animals however we want, but people come first.
The seal hunt is not for fun or money. It is necessary to keep fish in the ocean, and to give people a normal way of life.
Please be sure to research any cause you want to get involved in.
Remember: there are always two sides to the coin.

Why are the seals so much more important than, say, rats, which are also killed in awful ways (poison)? What about cows, which are slaughtered by the millions each day?
Ohhh... I see... the seals are cuter!!!
So long as you understand why you're concerned about this animal, I think that your first step would be to move to Canada and vote for politicians that will stop the hunt. Bonus points if you already live there. Then I'd send money to organizations that will work to get politicians to stop the hunt.
Most importantly, you need to kill the market for this fur, which means doing what you can to make fur no longer fashionable.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go clean the leather seats in my car...

Why stop something you know nothing about? What are people who depend on the seal hunts for livelihood supposed to do? Should we have them all go on Welfare as long as we let the seal population over populate?

Figure out some way so that the seal hunters can find other employment.
My idea: collect money for a $500-million or $1-billion endowment that would buy out their sealing licences and pay their living costs and tuition while they retrain for other work.
Let's look at it logically: would you voluntarily give up your job just because some well-meaning outsider asked you to do so?

I understand that you have a kind heart and want to end suffering, but please realize that if you stop the hunt you will be condemning countless seals the death by starvation.
This is due to the crash of the cod fishery, which was destroyed by countries like Spain who over fished until the fish were gone. Now the seals have nothing to eat, but they continue to breed, with no natural predators to keep their numbers down. If their population is not controlled, it will crash, beginning with starvation and culminating in a disease which will take a huge toll on them. Furthermore, they will continue to eat the few remaining cod, forcing that species into extinction.
If you want to help, you should urge all governments to stop overfishing and start to take better care of marine resources.

because of the fact the top of the international techniques we each would desire to advance a extra mature experience of irony. In ten years PETA would be telling quite everyone to club the overabundant infant seals that are killing off the the rest fish shares and feed the carcasses to ravenous polar bears. Soylent green is human beings!

Why would you want to do that?
There are millions and millions of seals and they eat so much fish that the cod fishery had to be stopped.
OK maybe there's a better way to kill baby seals then to to bat them on the head but we have to control that seal population somehow. Dont make a Brigitte Bardot (read fool) out of yourself with this matter.
