It seems that this god creature is so vain and vindictive that if you do not stroke it's ego by worshiping it in a highly proscribed manner, it tortures you for eternity in everlasting fire. Now that sounds like a highly disturbed creature that is hardly worthy of worship or respect and if real, would be feared.

"The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" Proverbs 1:7

-This is a reverant and Holy fear of the Lord. We are not "afraid" as in we are afraid of someong attacking or killing or hurting us- it is a different fear. A good fear- a HOLY fear of the Lord. I have no fear in death- and I have no fear in man- for I know God is with me. And God is to be feared. Even men trembled in the presence of the Lord- because of his MIGHT. But it is not the same kind of fear as you are thinking. We know God is good and we know he is Just. We stand in AWE of Him. He is awesome and mighty.

Joshua 4:24
He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God."

And this verse definately: to those who mock God and think nothing of Him:
Matthew 10:28
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

If you check out the word fear in both the Hebrew and Greek it also means revere. Only God's enemies need to fear Him.

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Behaviorist have proven that fear works as an inducement once the therapist is gone. That's how cigarette AVERSION works.

It's valid and scientificly proven to be effective more than 50% of the time.

For example, do you DRIVE more cautiously when you see SPEED CLOCKED BY RADAR signs posted!

Eh.

Do you FEAR something!

Eh...

If your workplace has ZERO TOLERANCE for sexual harrassment and has fired people for it and you see a new girl you like and she says not interested do you FEAR being persistant!

If it WASn'T a zero tolerance place would you continue to try!

Fear is a valid motivator.

I don't agree with it and I will not kiss my God's boot, for that is not a good God.

But fear is a valid motivator.

The fear of the god doesn't imply being afraid of God. It means that you have the utmost respect and awe for Him.

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Without it one cannot be a Christian.

It is written that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of Godly wisdom & knowledge.

This is the fear when one realizes God Is. It is to highly respect & reverence God. God is all powerful and all authority. Especially since Jesus raised from the dead & took back the keys to death & hell. Jesus is our High Priest, since He atoned for the sins of all mankind.

It is written to fear Him who has this authority. (Who has authority for what happens after we die.)

Fear God because his power is awesome, like you might be afraid of anything powerful. Fear God because his judgment is final. We should fear God because he can take anything away from us at any given moment, if he was so inclined. Fear, in this sense means reverance, not actully shaking-in-your-boots afraid.

Its not fear as in terror, but rather fear as in a healthy respect. Like you would have for anything that was powerful.
