Yes I'm straight. No, I'm not trying to be a smart@ss. I really don't understand. I don't understand why God would hate someone just because they like the same sex. Please don't tell me it's because "it's not natural". I've read it's actually a chemical imbalance between estrogen and testosterone. Can you shed some light please? And you don't have to agree with me, I'll give the best answer to whoever answers the best, even if it's not what I believe. Thanks.

Ladyjeans, I agree, I also raise the point that yes, God wrote the Bible, BUT...wasn't it translated over and over again? Didn't Catholics way back when manipulate the Bible and the concept of tithing for their own benefit? (not pointing fingers, guys, so please don't jump down my throat) but wouldn't it be possible for a homophobe to have added a little sentence in the Bible, cuz he had a personal problem?
Yes, i DO believe in the Bible, before I get attacked for that one too...i just take it as an interpretation.

ok, I offer my apologies for wording it as "everyone's" I suppose I was directing it mainly towards Christians, which I admit, was very ignorant. I know there are many many more religions beyond Christianity, but as an outside observer, it seems Christians have the biggest problem with homosexuality, but I'm not being judgemental or attack the Christian religion. Thanks for all the great answers, it's nice to have answers where people aren't attacking you for questioning something. I really appreciate just about everything everyone has said because I believe in considering all sides of an issue before making a decision.

and I also apologize if I offended anyone with the "chemical imbalance" thing, I am not implying that homosexuals are defected or handicapped, just wanted to get that out too.

It's against the big three religions because the source is the same.
Let me clarify that....
God gave us the bible. The Christians, Jews and Muslims have the same origins and pretty much believe the same Pentateuch. (The first 5 books of the bible). In the Pentateuch, homosexuality, along with a bunch of other sexual practices was defined as sinful by God. You can't get a much higher authority than that.
God designed sexual relations to between a single man and woman. It strengthens the bonds of love and produces offspring.
All other sexual relations are restricted. And even common sense tells you that they are unhealthy. Homosexual, promiscuous sex, bestiality, they are all strictly forbidden.
(By the way, the bible believing Christians are the only ones who continue to get the concept of sin right)
Now the question is... are people 'born' homosexual? I think the answer is yes and I think there are many Christians that won't agree with me.
There are people born with a predilection to homosexuality just as there are people born with a predilection to drug abuse, alcoholism, mental disorders, etc. If a person is burdened with these problems, it's just their 'cross to bear' so to speak.
And just because they have these predispositions does not make the act that they seek to exercise, acceptable. It's still sin in the eyes of God and they have to work to restrain those desires.
Furthermore, God uses the word "Abomination" to describe a few sins that I think we are supposed to be particularly careful of and homosexuality is one of them. In Gods wisdom, he understands that the behavior is destructive to the individual, unhealthy, destructive to the society that accepts it, etc.
I hope I answered your question, I think I'm rambling a bit!

Well, saying that it's in the Bible is legitimate IMO because I believe God is big enough to have protected His word over time. But beyond that, I don't believe it is a chemical imbalance. There are studies on both sides of this issue. Have you seen both sides?? Studies like this usually have an agenda, one way or another, so who do you believe?
I'll tell you from my own personal life why I believe it is wrong. I started having those attractions when I was 19. (I hadn't had any hetero attractions before that either.) I felt very wrong about these new feelings. They made me go crazy, I didn't want them. I even became somewhat suicidal. Over the next 8 years I tried to stop feeling these things.
I became a Christian fully at 25 and still felt this way. God didn't hate me. People who say that are dead wrong. Jesus opened my eyes and began to reveal to me the roots of these feelings I had. Small choices made by myself, my father, and others in my life as I was as child caused my life to turn off course. Every single piece of how I have felt and thought has now been explained to me. In the light of truth, I found freedom from homosexuality. I am now attracted to guys. It took about 2-3 years after committing to Christ. It's a long hard process.
If it were a chemical imbalance, I couldn't have been "fixed." I took no drugs to "cure" my problem. My God says it is wrong because it was destroying my life. He didn't hate me, He loved me enough to bring me back to Him. Look at the suicide rate among gays, I'm not the only one who felt the destructive nature of homosexuality.

There is no text in the Bible that states God hates homosexuals.
The Bible does, however, identify the sexual interaction of two members of the same sex as an abomination.
The act is an abomination not the actor. In essence what we are facing in society today is a plea for the acceptance of an act which God calls an abomination.
If a person believes that the Bible is the word of God and that God is the Creator, His words in the Bible identifying the sexual act as an abomination are accepted as true.
According to God, human beings were created by Him with their sexual orientation pre-programmed by HIm. Therefore, the sexual preference for another person of the same sex is a matter of choice. God condemns the choice, (not the person) as sinful.
The current worldly view is that homosexuality or lesbianism is a genetic inheritance and the person can't help his or herself because he or she was born that way. So it comes down to every individual's decision to either believe what God is saying or what some in modern society are saying.

Not all religions, but yes, against most Bible based religions.
It is the believed to be wrong, because God calls it an abomination, wich is worse than sin, he actually despises that sin. There are also 7 other abominations listed, those people tend to over look, such as lying. They believe it unnatural because the Bible says it is leaving the natural use of a woman, wich to them deems in unnatural.
These people tend to forget, the Bible ALSO taught us to love one another, not to judge. Seems people forget those, in lieu of condeming homosexuality.
Just my two cents. Not necessarily my belief.

I suspect early in the beginning of most religions that homosexuality was discouraged because the leaders of the time wanted to grow the populations they ruled over. Obviously, to accomplish this they needed everyone to reproduce. He who ruled over the largest amount of people therby had the most power and could produce the largest armies.
Now, of course, the need for an increased population is gone. However, after several thousand years, how can they claim homosexuality is suddenly O.K. without discrediting their entire religions? From what I can see they can't.

its against biblical religions because the bible tried to distance itself from the practices of the surrounding religions. since one of the characteristics of some of the surrounding pagan religions was homosexual sex rites, the bible was predisposed to hate it.
"The well-known Biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah reveals God’s feelings about homosexuality."
sodom and gomorrah had nothing to do with homosexuality.
"Classical Jewish texts do not specifically indicate that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because the inhabitants were homosexual. Rather, they were destroyed because the inhabitants were generally depraved and uncompromisingly greedy. Rabbinic writings affirm that the primary crimes of the Sodomites were terrible and repeated economic crimes, both against each other and outsiders.
A rabbinic tradition, described in the Mishnah, postulates that the sin of Sodom was related to property: Sodomites believed that "what is mine is mine, and what is yours is yours" (Abot), which is interpreted as a lack of compassion. Another rabbinic tradition is that these two wealthy cities treated visitors in a sadistic fashion. One example is the story of the "bed" that guests to Sodom were forced to sleep in: if they were too short they were stretched to fit it, and if they were too tall, they were cut up.(compare Procrustes)
The Talmud also recounts the incident of a young girl (some sources say it was a daughter of Lot) who gave some bread to a poor man who had entered the city. When the townspeople discovered her act of kindness, they smeared her body with honey and hung her from the city wall until she was stung to death by bees. (Sanhedrin 109a) It is this gruesome event (and her scream, in particular), the Talmud concludes, that are alluded to in the verse that heralds the city’s destruction: "So Hashem said, ‘Because the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah has become great, and because their sin has been very grave, I will descend and see…" (Genesis 18:20-21)"

Science is now able to prove that there is a physiological difference in homosexual and heterosexual persons. Most religions are against science because it challenges their belief structure.
In some eastern cultures same-sex couples have been known since the dawn of history, but most of our western civilizations who believe in the Adam and Eve theory, would say that God created Woman for Man.
I think homosexuality is natural. Even if it is not, and it is due to a *malfunction* in their physiology, then think about this...
They could be considered *handicapped*
If so...then would God hate a handicapped person?
(No I don't think that homosexuals are in fact handicapped...I just wanted to give the *anti-homosexual religious* persons something to think about!)

It is written ..in the bible ..it goes against the natural order God has ordained ...
God never changed the order..time did not nullify anything...
When Paul wrote in the bible how that we are no longer under the law...He was saying the we are not saved by the fulfilling of the laws written it is by faith and grace are we saved..You see Jesus paid the price of sin with his life and blood so he fulfilled the law. The Law is this righteouness with God..so Paul also says the law was not abolished..that is the principle of the Law...Righteousness with God..Therefore the right things of the law exist ...it is just that ..by doing them as apposed to grace and faith...it is now grace and faith through Jesus Christ ..because he paid the price. SO what was written...well in the old testament
in Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Then you have the story of sodom and gomorah a homosexual city( actually 2) and God rained down fire upon them
then in the new testament in Romans it is shown where it is still not right in the sight of God and because of their unrighteous ways they would receive in themselves a just reward..
Romans 1:24-27 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
You see...God knew that in man ...that is in his flesh..dwells sickness and disease...as a matter of fact a disease or sickness that dwells in regions we have no clue..but because of God he gives us a balance..
it is the deadly ecoli...it lives in your lower intestine..it can kill you...but it lives in you and does not kill you because God has a balance in you....It is when disrupt that balance by introducing a member that wwas not intended...going in and violating the balance...then that member goes in other areas..like the mouth ...you have not thoroughly cleansed yourself...we are talking a deadly virus..not just germs..and now they are in a mouth and then we wonder why aids is so rampant...so many other diseases dwell there to ..but that one is the deadliest...
So Gods intention is to keep people from hurting themselves...and yet we fight for the right and priviledge to do the wrong thing
Let me also say it is NOT a chemical imbalance that is a lie from the pit..that would say still that God made the homosexual...God did not ..it is their own choice ..the driving force behind it(their choice) is the devil..like drug addiction is a spirit that inhabits a person..thereby making it almost impossible for them to break on their own...drugs ..alcohol..nicotine..
evil spirits look to tose who submit their will in choice and then enter..making it a habit ...hohmosexuality is a spirit that enters during a "curious" stage..i'm sure you have heard that term.."curious"...and in that time is when they submit their will and then the devil begins to take them down a horrible road down to the pit...sometimes ending with aids ...

God does not hate homosexuals. Nowhere in the Judea-Christian Bible does it say that he does. Lustful desire whether it be heterosexual, homosexual, or herbosexual (Boston tree ferns beware!!!)lol. Is sinful by its selfish nature. In the Bible a couple of such lustful encounters are talked about. It is the religious leaders who have interpreted them to be direct condemnations of homosexuality.
I personally believe since it isn't one of the Ten Commandments and Christ never even mentions it, that it is more a problem to the churches than to God.
In other words if comes from Love it comes from God. If it comes from Lust, or control, or selfish pride and greed, it comes from the other guy.
Religion is what happens when entrepreneurs, and politicians get hold of philosophy. They will always make it fit their agenda's.

Not everyone's religion is against homosexuality. Wicca welcomes all, regardless of race, color, creed, sexual orientation, etc... the only rule in Wicca is that we harm none.
"An it harm none, do as thou wish"
I am sure there are other religions that don't condemn homosexuality.
As far as the bible condemning homosexuality, you have to remember that the context of the bible was decided on by men, not God directly, just look at the link below
