Is it a new phenomena to "turn ur neibour in"?

it used to be that you would be called a snitch, and they said "snitches get stitches". Its somthing you didnt even do to ur enemy. Now it seems that kids are taught to turn everyone in, hell, they even have forms to fill out everywhere even at work ..."report", "turn ur neibor in" ... it just seems to me that its trendy now to sell people out to a system that was corrupt then, and even moreso now ... i think its just a way for people to lash out with their frustrations and hate because they feel powerless in their miserable lives. theres very little love and human understanding left in the world ... "ur a "criminal" therfore you must be turned in and i hate you" ... i think i'll keep a notepad with me and a videocam in the car and start turning everyone in i see going 1 mph over the speedlimit since they are, in fact, breaking the law and a criminal ....

A good question. In a system that still pretends to have checks and balances, like ours, laws have to be challenged to be changed. If a law was written by the corporations, then you have no chance of changing it in CONgress, since they were already paid to think one way about it. The only other way is through the court system, which initially has to uphold the particular law, unless it gets challenged all the way to the Supreme Court.
In other words, the system is designed to make everyone a criminal except the corporations who make money on being criminals. They are the only ones that can challenge the laws that other corporations have written. All the bickering between us plebes at breaking minor laws and gutting each other only serves to make some rich prick even richer when more stuff is purchased to replace the stuff that gets stolen, broken, or confiscated by the cops.

If you want Change, keep it in your pocket. Your dollar is the time you lived and sold.

Disagreeing with enacted laws is your right. Obeying those laws is your duty. Ignorance of the law or ignoring the law is not an acceptable excuse for breaking the law.

As a citizen you are obligated to report lawbreakers. Common law and common sense go hand in hand. And common sense was not applied when you made your statement about reporting speeders who exceeded the limit by one MPH. That being said, how much else of your statement lacked a common sense approach?

The only people that call people snitches are others of criminal nature.This isn't the same as Mary telling on Johnny or Maria telling on Juan.Its very serious.Do you mean you would not report your neighbor if you knew he was a child molester ? I understand its about a matter of degree.But are you the one to decide that or is the law?
Your remark about snitches get stitches says a lot about that mentality.If its a crime I'm going to report it ,I don't care if its my uncle.I'm not saying I wouldn't help him with a good lawyer but I would report him.Yes speeding is against the law and the speeder should get a ticket.

if this is in regard to illegals then yes turn them in...they are hurting others....they are using up government resources, they get free healthcare, subsidies, can get low cost loans then skip out on them which means the rest of us have to eat those costs, don't pay taxes which the rest of us do so in essence they hurt the law abiding, tax paying legal citizens because they literally steal from us and to top it all off they can now get social security, without even having to pay into the system. now many of the elderly may not be able to although they have paid into the system for decades but an illegal can steal this right out of their hands. so get out your videocam and turn in the speeders...because we also have video cameras and we have them turned on you and any other law breakers. there is not a thing wrong with holding people who break the law accountable no matter what their excuse.

People have been turning in their neighbors for tax evasion for many years (what, you thought that informant form was new?), and police have always asked that witnesses come forward if they know who committed a crime.

That being said, I don't think it's right to turn in my neighbors when they aren't doing anything wrong. If my immigrant former neighbors had been dealing drugs or killing people, I'd have had the cops all over them, but they simply minded their own business and worked as hard as they could to support themselves. I saw no reason to turn in good people for being from somewhere else.

I agree! Its horrible, and what gets me the most is that many times there is NO crime being commited, people are just so GD nosey that they think something is happening and want to get that person out of their neighborhood. Not very neighborly if you ask me, and when they are wrong, they get that mad neighbor right next door. When did people stop minding their own business?

Turning people in is civilised. The opposite of this is seen in Iraq where a Shiite policeman won't arrest a fellow shiite and that kind of thing.

There are times when you need to turn your neighbor in. It's all about common sense. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of that going around.
