I got this as a response:
"We are what we choose to be...If you choose to be christian you choose to condemn all those acts that christianity condemns..."
How is that possible, when Christianity has no real rule?. Religions does, such as Catholicism, Baptists, Methodist, etc. They are Christ based religions, but they are all different in their practices and doctrine. The definition of Christian, is a follower of Christ, no religious doctrine or dogma.
Does that statement make sense to anyone? Why should I have to condemn all the things religious Christian doctrine condems to be a Christian. By definition, to be a Christian is just to follow Christ, right?
(BTW, Not concerned in the least about my faith, Im just asking because the statement didnt make sense to me, not looking for guidance for my faith.)

Zero, youve got it right. So then if Christ taught us love and forgivness, should that not also be what we follow?

You don't have to condemn anything. Everyone can be a Christian in their own way. Some choose to associate with a denomination and some don't.
I don't agree with what the other person said either. I am a Christian and I have a denomination but I would never condemn anyone for their beliefs.

I was thinking about your question and needed to clarify.
I make a huge distinction between agreeing with Christ and agreeing with all Christians. Christ’s message was actually pretty simple and can be summed up rather easily. Yet we humans have a way of complicating things sometimes or distorting them altogether.
Agree with Christ, most definitely. Agree with other people who call themselves Christians, only if their message is true to Christ’s message in scripture.
No of course it doesn’t make sense.
So what else is new around here?

Christians follow the teachings of Christ. Christ condemns something, Christians are kind of bound to do the same.

Ehhh, not necessarily. There's a group out there called "Atheists for Christ", a group of non-Christians that reject the supernatural side of Jesus but accept his teachings. If following Christ was the only thing you had to do in order to be a Christian, those people would be Christians... but they're not, in my opinion, they're still atheist.
I would draw the line at the Bible. If you accept the Bible as the "word of God", you're Christian.

I think people are confusing what Christianity means. We do what our parents and religious leaders tell us to do without questions.
Remember that Christ taught us tolerance and love . He did not care about background, occupation or anything else that we judge people by. God knows that we are not perfect, but he does expect us to make right choices, to care for this world and it's people no matter what. If you read about other religions the principles are the same.

I think the person is trying to say that no matter what denomination one belongs to, the bottom line is that a Christian should follow the teachings of Christ. I think in the person's last statement, what he or she meant to say was, "...no [matter the] religious doctrine or dogma."

one must do what they believe in their heart is the right thing to do. one has the free will to practice Religion the way one believes as long as one does not infringe upon the free will and rights of others or violate the laws rules and mores of the Country in which one resides. GOD is to big to be in only one place and the only major differences in one Religion and another are the NAMES they refer to GOD as and the Rituals and ceremonies they use to Honor, Adore, Praise, Worship, Pray to and Petition, Etc.

Perhaps the person was confusing Christianity (the umbrella term for it) with Born - Again Christians.

She is probably a born-again christian... Or Christian Science... There are many different "religions" which use the term christianity to describe themselves... What do they all have in common? They are all crazy, ignorant and yet feel that they are somehow superior or smarter than everyone else.

Christians seem to make it up as they go along, some even believe in evolution now instead of Noah's ark , you can't pick and choose, you are either the whole deal or not, you can't just believe in some of it
