I want to see about getting my tubes tied. I am only 23 getting ready to go on 24. I have never had any kids but I have been pregnant 3 times already. I love kids to death, I have a niece and 2 nephews that I love to death but kids are just not for me personally. I've been told for a long time now and by many people to wait cause I will change my mind but I know that I won't. I do not want to have kids and I don't want to keep having to worry about becomming pregnant and condoms and birth control can not guarantee that I won't. I want something permanant.

And I do take all precautions available to try and keep from getting pregnant but unfortunatly that's not always enough to prevent it from happening. I know a lady with 3 kids and got pregnant with all of them while on birth control.

There is not an age restriction. Most Doctor's would not recommed that you have it done. I seriously would tell you that you are too young and it is to permanent. I am speaking from experience I had a tubal at 28. I did have 4 kids. However I divorced, remarried and wanted more. I ended up having a reversal that did not work, and it took two tries of IVF to get my son. There are so many new methods of birth control that are effective. I would look into them first because once you have a tubal there there is no going back. There may be options, but they are very expensive and may never work. Your life can change at any time that may change the way that you feel.

I'm not sure about your state but I do know that here in Michigan, a woman must be 25 years of age or have had at least 3 children in order to receive a tubal ligation. I was offered it after the birth of my 3rd child and i was 23 then. I chose not to because i had all my children close together (4,3,&2yrs old) and knew that i would probably want another one someday. I chose to get an IUD. Its a semi permanant birth control. If your not familiar with it, an IUD is a T shaped device that releases a daily amount of birth control into your system. It is inserted through your cervix and into your uterus. As with any birth control, there are risks involed but most arent serious. They have hormonal and non hormonal ones as well. Also. there is a good chance that your periods may stop completly with an IUD. I havent had my monthly since June 05, but it does return once the device is removed and your fertitly returns almost instantly as well, if you ever decide to have children. There are a few different types of the IUD. I chose one that lasts for 5 years. Its called the Mirena IUD. If it sounds like something you may be interested in, I will post the link to the one i have so you can research further into it. Good Luck with either decision you make. =) http://www.mirena.com

The decision is intensely personal. You feel ready for sterility you should do it. It is very stressful to keep getting pregnant and not have a child. If the last one was very recent you may still be depressed emotionally and physically which is why you are being cautioned. If you are absolutely sure have the tubal it is the most effective. However - if there is any doubt opt for a low maintenance product like Norplant or and IUD both offer long term reliable and reversible options. You have them implanted and are protected 5-10 years and then if you still don't want children it is likely you will have more support from your health practitioner and your family. Your body your choice-it is just as important to know if you don't want children and take steps to prevent pregnancy as it is to have them and raise them. Mommy is forever - only you can decide if that is part of your identity or not. Good Luck!

My aunt did the same thing your thinking of doing and now she regrets it because she wants a kid and so doesn't her husband she lost a few good boyfriends because of it. If yor only twenty-three your too young to decide about tubes being tied what if you meet the man of your dreams and he wants to have kids and you decide one or two won't be bad but you have a problem - your tubes are tied then you might regret it but I think you will have trouble anyways trying to find a docctor to do that type of work on a 23 year old. I would seriously consider waiting until your in your thirties and you KNOW you are not going to have any kids with the man of your dreams. I hope you rethink this and maybe change your mind if not hopefully you have good luck with the procedure and good luck with life

I was a lot like you at 16 however. I had my son at 20 and my daughter at 23. The doc was really hesitant about my request. I did ask him if a woman who had no children would be able to go for a tubiligation and he said no. My tubiligation is not permanent due to risk of infection but is reversable if I choose to have any more (however, the cost to have it reversed is $4500.00 CDN and it's money that I will never have) so it's permanent in my
eyes. You still have to worry about condoms for STD's/STI's. Birth control is also used to regulate horomones. So you're really not all that free and clear of those items.

I would have to say the only one that you have convince here would be a gynechologist. I had my tubes tied 1/2 hour after the birth of my second child. You may have to see a film about having it done. Being you have been pregnant three times already may convince the doctor you do not want children and you won't have any hassles.
Go for it! It is worth it!

I have 3 children and after my 2nd child I talked to my doctor about having my tubes tied and he said that he would not do it unless I was 24 or had at least 3 children because the rate of women who have there tubes want it reversed and in some cases it can not be done. I think doctors feel that if they tie your tubes before a certain age or before you have a certain number of kids they would not make money off of you anymore!! hahahaha

In Australia by memory the age is 28 and you have to have had a child. I had mine done after my second child and at times regret it.

I doubt you'll find anywhere that will do a tubal ligation if you haven't had children and at such a young age. You never know what is going to happen down the track.

Have you tried having an implant or an IUD?

Once you are of legal age (18), you CAN get your tubes tied, but beware!...

Many doctors are very reluctant on performing this operation on one so young. What is their definition of "one so young"?
That is a woman who is still of child-bearing age, that may, at some time in the future, make the decision to have at least one child.
There have been lawsuits on doctors that performed this operation.
Depending on how the procedure is done, this can also be reversed.
