...is it a awkward experience for both Shrinks?

Is the Shrink being evaluated by the other Shrink for technique while the Shrink is listening, or do you think the Shrink denies being a Shrink when he goes to a Shrink?

Most mental health professionals see other professionals on a regular basis. It helps keep them sane and they can talk about work things that bother them with someone who really understands.

In most places in the U.S., for the first five years of their practice, a psychologist has to see a supervising psychologist one hour for every forty hours spent with patients. They make sure the supervisee is not in over his head with patients' care and they touch base on how the supervisee is doing himself.

A mental health clinic I am aware of has group sessions on the clock in addition to the supervision above. They get together and work on their problems just like you would if you were in group therapy.

My shrink sees a shrink....I think most shrinks do end up needing shrinks because they listen to people all day long who are miserable and unburdening themselves onto them....

I would have to say that the shrink would find out about the shrink's profession through the therapy sessions and dealing with the insurance information. However the therapist is not supposed to talk about his or her patients due to doctor/patient confidentiality...not sure how many of them actually adhere to that though....
