.........maybe he had a nightmare?

Can't tell from that information. Is he walking into things when they aren't where they usually are? Dose he have anything visibly wrong with his eyes? If you are truly worried that he is having vision problems, take him to the vet, some problems can be treated. It may just be that he is getting old and grumpy and dosen't want to wake up. Who knows what goes through a dog's brain. If he is showing aggression at other times, and medical issues get ruled out; you may want to do some leadership training. It's best to talk to a vet or trainer if you think there is the slightest chance that he may bite! Look up "nothing in life is free" method of training. Good luck!

On OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting) there was a program about dogs on the other night. It was a documentary about dogs and what the scientists from Pennsylvania University's study about dogs concluded. Also on the program was professional dog peeps. Need to see if your public channel has it on, sorry forgot the name think it was just called dogs?
This documentary would answer this question, and so many more you have about your pooch! Look like you got some great answers already :0)

Our English Mastiff when he dreams he will growl, act as if he is biting something, he will run (his legs will even kick you if you are close to him!). This is a 170 pound dog, kicking hurts lol! What I do when he is on the bed (yes we let all our dogs on our bed, for you who do not believe in this and are reading this, live with it lol) I just say his name, and/or touch him and he calms down. When we first got our saint Bernard the saint almost wanted to fight, thinking he was doing it on purpose, and trying to hurt me.

Hard to say what dogs dream about when sleeping - you don't say how old he is, but if he's an old dog he might be going blind and is comforted by the sound of your voice and your scent.

My dog will sometimes move his feet growal a little whlie sleeping. He's just dreaming. Once his legs jerked and he barked. He stopped when I got my digi cam to record the event. So I would think he's just having a dream of chasing something.
My dog will snore too.

If he's getting older, it is possible that he's losing vision and hearing. He may be feeling vibrations on the floor, but not hearing anything.

Then again, I have a young healthy dog that just gets angry when you disturb him while he's sleeping.

Talked to your vet?

Hi this is likely to be sleep terrors or failing this i would guess it's his hearing not eyes. If awoken by an unfamilar sound you would be quite frightend too.

I am not sure, He could be going blind. Take him to the vet and get his eyes checked.

Hard to say, if you woke him up, then he is grumpy and is mad because you woke him up. one of my dogs is like that if i wake him up or getting him off his favorite spot. but if not than i don't know what to tell you.
