You need to find a person who knows both systems very well.

Unfortunately, such a person probably doesn't exist. Most people specialize in one or the other, and most M$ geeks only know M$ (sorry, but that's the truth).

Worse yet, what is "better" overall might not work for your company. For instance, I upgraded a client from an old version of Peachtree to a new one (better!) but we had to cancel that when we found out that the newer Peachtree had a limitation that we couldn't work around (worse!).

Either system will probably work. I don't like the fact that any M$ financial software locks me into M$ products, usually their latest-greatest only (so you have to upgrade Office, Exchange, etc when you upgrade the accounting software). Oracle will probably run on servers of various platforms, which might be nice.

Your success will depend greatly on the people who do your install and configuration and migration and training. Choose VERY carefully -- they will be de facto a part of your staff for years.

Any accounting software change is hell... tell you accounting people that it will be at least a year of hell, during which time they'll develop drug and alcohol habits. That way, when they only complain for 6 months you can tell them that you're ahead of schedule and the project is exceeding expectations. I'm serious about this -- otherwise, people (like the computer guy) will get fired at the 3-4 month mark!!!!
