it doesn't "say" anything, it's a book.
I really don't care what it says about that topic - I can barely put up with one wife, let alone more.

The short answer is that polygamy is acceptable when God says it is. It seems to only be used for very specific reasons. God authorized Jacob to practice polygamy, and he ended up having 12 sons from 4 different women. On the other hand God condemned Solomon for his polygamous relationships because He did not authorized them. He had 300 wives and 700 concubines. There are rare instances when God approves of polygamy, but to be on the safe side, you'd better practice monogamy.

Polygamy is not forbidden in the bible but it is not seen as a good idea. The only real restriction was that you could not marry 2 sisters.

The bible is fine with polygamy as long as it is the man who has multiple spouses. Women are not allowed to have multiple husbands.
It's just more of that tired old "males are superior to women" bullcrap.

The Bible makes it very clear that all church leaders have ONE wife. That would be the standard for all church member if it's a requirement for leadership.... Jim

God made one man and one woman - polygamy is wrong. The word is dungheep in the original language! Adultery is wrong no matter how you slice it - God's words, not mine :) God bless you as you seek the truth. ~Nise

Genesis 2:18,22-25:18 And Jehovah God went on to say: “It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.” ... 22 Jehovah God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and to bring her to the man.
23 Then the man said:
“This is at last bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh.
This one will be called Woman,
Because from man this one was taken.”
24 That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh. 25 And both of them continued to be naked, the man and his wife, and yet they did not become ashamed. "
Marriage was originally meant to be monogamous.
Matthew 19: 3-9: "And Pharisees came up to him, intent on tempting him and saying: “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on every sort of ground?” 4 In reply he said: “Did YOU not read that he who created them from [the] beginning made them male and female 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh’? 6 So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together let no man put apart.” 7 They said to him: “Why, then, did Moses prescribe giving a certificate of dismissal and divorcing her?” 8 He said to them: “Moses, out of regard for YOUR hardheartedness, made the concession to YOU of divorcing YOUR wives, but such has not been the case from [the] beginning. 9 I say to YOU that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.”
So we see that Jesus restored the original concept of marriage. The early Christians were not pologamous
1 Corinthians 7:2, 12-16: "yet, because of prevalence of fornication, let each man have his own wife and each woman have her own husband. 3 12 But to the others I say, yes, I, not the Lord: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and yet she is agreeable to dwelling with him, let him not leave her; 13 and a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and yet he is agreeable to dwelling with her, let her not leave her husband. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in relation to [his] wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in relation to the brother; otherwise, YOUR children would really be unclean, but now they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving one proceeds to depart, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not in servitude under such circumstances, but God has called YOU to peace. 16 For, wife, how do you know but that you will save [your] husband? Or, husband, how do you know but that you will save [your] wife?
Ephesians 5:28-31: "In this way husbands ought to be loving their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself, 29 for no man ever hated his own flesh; but he feeds and cherishes it, as the Christ also does the congregation, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave [his] father and [his] mother and he will stick to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
