What do you think is the right amount of money to spend on children for christmas? Should I spend the same amount of money on all 3 of my children? ( I have an 5, 21/2, and a 6 month old)

I don't think you should spend the same amount, because a 6 month old shouldn't have a very large expensive gift. I would get the baby something he could use around 9 to 12 months and something that costs around 15 dollars. A two yr old could easily be happy with a bull dozer or a truck, and the 5 yr old a remote control car or a digital kids camera so about 25 to 30 for the 5 yr old, 15 dollars for the 2 yr old and about 15 dollars for the 6 month old

I think you need to spend what you can afford. They are still young enough to be pretty happy with what you get them. Start saving now for when they get to be teenagers and they want xbox360 and playstation 3. I dont think you need to spend the same amount at these ages it will become a bigger deal when they get older. I have 6 kids (17, 13, 12, 11, 6, and 3) four boys and two girls. I spent maybe 60 dollars on the youngest but the 4 older ones I spent around 130-150 each. I would also advise you to consider how much room you have in your home, one year I got everyone large items and regretted it cuz I had no wear to put all the stuff. Yikes......what ever your choice......you guys have a wonderful christmas.

First of all the 6 month old would be happy with a toy, the 2 1/2 year old with a box and the 5 year old with only a few things. You won't need to spend a lot there. Try to get things for the younger two that they need... sheet sets, pjs, clothes, some movies, etc. The 5 year old will be all eyes for his/her own toys to care what the others got. Just make sure the 5 year old has some really good gifts. 5 is such a special age. It's the first time they really get excited about christmas.

I would spend the same amount on the 5 and 2 and a half..a 6 month old could care less...get them a couple of good baby toys because a 6 month old will be overwhelmed with too much. Either that or spend the same amount and get your 6 month old a jumperoo or something. I try not to spend more than 100 per child. I realize most people do way more than that...but I think it's plenty or you risk making christmas about gifts and then you are constantly trying to one up yourself or your kids are disappointed.

I think the amount of money should depend on what you can afford. What I bought my daughter for xmas when she was a baby was things she needed, shampoo, baby wash, clothes, and a couple toys--they don't know the difference anyway. Now she is two and a half and I am getting her a few toys, a chair, and some clothes, and I have a 12 year old, we will spend at least $300 on him. It all depends on the kid. I would suggest to keep it small as long as you can because it gets to be quite expensive as they get older! And when little kids have too much to open the get bored with it!

As your boys are older, it will be important that you spend an equal amount of money on them, but at these ages, it won't matter to them at all if you spend more on one. My younger sisters always paid attention to quantity of gifts so my parents were careful to always have the same number of gifts under the tree for all of us and I followed that with my boys.

The 6 month old will have no memory (other than the photos you take) and the 2 1/2 yr. old likely doesn't need as much as the 5 year old does. The 5 year old is at peak santa age and will be looking forward to Christmas more than his brothers. Also, the gifts the 5 year old will be getting will likely cost more than the gifts for the younger children.

The amount of money depends on you and your circumstances. I generally spend $300-$500 on each of my boys but the amount I spent when they were young was much lower. (they're 19 and 14 now) A few years ago, they got a game system for both of them and they were thrilled with that. It took up most of my Christmas money but I bought a lot of small gifts (like a deck of cards) to wrap so they would have a lot of unwrapping. For both of my boys, their favorite part of Christmas was the special secret day they each got along with me and then with their dad to buy a present for their brother and the parent who wasn't with them. They would get $20 for each present and a whole day of shopping for the 2 gifts. My oldest son is coming home for his secret shopping day with us so that's how much it meant to them. The 4 of us go to the mall... I split up with one and my husband goes with the other in the morning. We meet for lunch (after hiding the present bag in the trunk) and then we switch kids for the afternoon. It's a good tradition to start with your 5 year old :)

I think it should be the same amount for each. But if some has more necessities than the others (like more cloths or shoes, stuff like that) you could spent some more dollars on that one. I don't know really what the proper amount would be just depends on your own budget..and divide it in 3 equal (apprx) parts.
