My son left for boot camp Nov. 15 and we have not yet gotten the form letter with his address in it. How long will he be in reception before he is assigned to a unit? His MOS is 92Y-unit supply specialist. His recruiting Sgt. said that may be why he is still in processing? Does it take longer to assign recruits that are not infantry?

It does take longer sometime. Your son is unfortunately at a post that houses the infantry OSUT. Sometimes, they'll go a month just sending recruits to OSUT, and not ship out any other basic trainees. The same thing happens at Leonard Wood.

Its usually about a week. This time of year it may take a little longer, as fewer people join in November and they wait until they have enough people for a full company.

it'll be a couple weeks at the most. it has nothing to do with his MOS, just the space in the BCT units. you'll have a letter soon, within a week, i would guess. and you should get a phone call within the next couple weeks. it'll be about 30 seconds...enough to say hi mom, i love you, i'm ok, bye. that's about it.

Usually a week in reception.. 9 weeks of basic.. then another week in transition and reception into AIT.. After graduating, another week or so, depending on how much leave you take, and then reception and onto your permanent duty station.

Maybe a week. That is how long I was there.
