Some people just can't accept someone being nice to them. I always say thanks if someone holds a door for me, and I appreciate the good manners. That said, I'll often hold the door for other people - the fellas are usually confused by it. :)

No.
I live in the South. Boys are raised to respect their mothers. When they grow to be men they tend to retain that respect for women.
There is a difference between holding a door open for a woman (or a man for that matter) because it is polite to do so and insisting on doing it like she isn't capable of doing it herself. I actually had a prom date once that screamed at me because I tried to open the car door before he could get to it. I actually ripped my dress running up the front steps of my house trying to get inside and away from that freak fast enough!
Where I live, the first person who gets to the door opens it and holds it open if someone else is coming in or out of it. Then that person holds the door for the next, etc. If a woman opens the door first and a man comes up, he usually takes the door and holds it for her to continue through.
It's all about manners, not women's lib.
I'm a mom with three kids. There are times when I couldn't open the door if I wanted to. If I wasn't a married woman, I'd kiss every man who ever held the door open so I could get those little buggers where I was going!

I don't get mad. It shows respect for either a man to hold the door for a woman or if you are going in the door first an there is a man behind you that you don't know - you hold the door for him. It's about respecting others... how would you feel if someone let a door slam in your face?

Chivalry is not dead when you find a gentleman who will open the door for a lady. I would certainly not get mad at the act of kindness from a man who was brought up with manners and knew how to treat women.
Women who regard this as unacceptable should just open the door for the man, instead. :)

I LOVE IT! You know, I am definitely a modern woman, and am capable of opening the door for myself. BUT....a gentleman would go above and beyond what is expected...and open a door for me. That is flattering to me in this day and age when I can't help but wonder if chivalry really is dead. It's refreshing to see a man respect a woman enough to just do something nice.

If someone is going through a door and stops long enough to wait for me to get to the door I don't have a problem with that. I always say thank you and do the same when I'm the first through the door. But when a guy steps aside to let me go through the door first, I find it awkward. I still say thanks, but it does bother me a bit...

No, I think it is a common courtesy and respectful. She should find something to get mad about that is worth getting mad about. How about if they just let the door slam on her instead ?

I don't get mad. They're just trying to be polite, I'm sure they don't really believe I can't open it myself. I just smile.
At work to go in there are several doors, and if a man holds one open for me I can't help but get to the next one first and I open it for him!

I love it. Women like that really irritate me too. They think they're so high and mighty but they really just look like fools who have forgotten what it means to be a woman. Having equal rights does not mean we are the SAME. Men are women are different. Deal with it.
