Two weeks ago I noticed slight burning when urinating withing an hour I had tremendous amount of blood in the urine and no fever. I went to the doc immediately. The urine sample showed bacteria, too numberous to count red blood cells and white blood cells. I was put on cepro and the visible blood dissapeared withing 2 hours. I am still feeling pain in my lower back and pain and discomfort in my bladder and vaginal area. I have an appointment next week with the doc. I am worried what else could be wrong. I am worried about bladder cancer!

Thanks so much everyone for the reassurance. I just got scared because of so much blood. I take very good care of myself but I just get paranoid over cancer. I am trying to get in to see the doc as soon as possible!

Sounds fine. The reassurance you're looking for is why you have the follow-up exam. And a persistent, partially-treated infection is much more likely than cancer. The routine course of treatment is about 95% effective, but that means an expected 5% failure rate.

Oh please don't start panicking about bladder cancer.
It may just be that your infection was soooo bad that it takes more than the one prescription you got or it may take another prescription of a different type of drug.
As far as your pain goes, has your doctor not given you something for pain? Usually, they will give you a pain med that is specifically for UTI or Bladder infections. I have gone completely blank on the name of it, but is is purple and makes your urine bright yellow or even orange - but it sure helps with the pain - you may want to ask about it.
I'm sorry they are making you wait a complete week before seeing you again, especially since you are in pain, but try drinking lots - and I mean lots of cranberry juice - it will help.

You need more antibiotics so go back to the doctor immediately. Don't lose sleep over having cancer; the onset was much too rapid and the symptoms are typical of an acute urinary tract infection.

It could take days for the symptoms to go away. Did you get a sulfur pill besides the cipro? That stops the pain. You also could have an accompanying kidney infection. Call the doctor.

It takes more than just two hours to clear the bacteria from your bladder etc. So you will not become "whole" over night. Continue taking your Cipro and seeing the doctor.

not to be rude but if your partner is not hygienic down in his or her private then they could be infecting you over and over. Try first drinking alot of cranberry juice and then talk with your partner if you are sexually active. Make sure to clean down there yourself as well. It should go away after 3 weeks.
If not go back to your MD but usually these are the reasons that i mentioned. Good luck with this .
