First of all, I laughed aloud at the way you phrased your question.

Second of all, a small propane blow torch will not hurt and you can always tell her she can use it to caramelize her crème brulée with it. If she's worried, she can purchase you a fire extinguisher for Christmas.

Third of all, unless you're a minor? You have the right to do things -- which don't break the covenant of marriage! -- without your wife's consent. It's the "You're Not the Boss of Me Because I'm a Grown-Up Too!" rule. Unless you are known for being a pyromaniac and love to burn your wife's curtains with matches already? I think you're probably quite safe with a basic blowtorch.

If you were my husband, I'd buy you the blow torch and the safety chain saw (you know you want a chain saw; every man wants a chain saw) and install a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit in the area you plans to use it. I've never met a man who doesn't go buy the darned thing anyway, and she and you and I all know you're coming home with a blow torch and sweet, apologetic grin the next time you go to the local hardware store.

Oh, and installing a First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher is definitely a must for kitchens, too!

I never Brun down anything when my husband asked me if I was Ok with a Blow, and I said Oh Yes Please. That was on Sunday evening. On Monday after work I got my torch and I tell you it is a lot easier locking the garage door in the dark.

lol... great question.

Yes, go ahead and buy one yourself, or ask for gift vouchers for the shop in which you wish to buy one... that way you don't have to pay for it yourself, and it will still be a gift. :-)

Your wife obviously has a fear of fire, so you have to prove to her how responsible you can be in handling a blow torch before she will trust you. Therefore, yes, you need to get one, and prove yourself worthy.

Yes, and buy your wife a `blow soap bubbles` toy.
