Not really different types, just different symptoms.
Some people get constipated really easily and really bad on a chronic basis.
Some have diarrhea in the same manner.
Some people just experience extreme pain and constant nausea (which was my case before I was diagnosed, ended up in the hospital for 14 days because of it).
The best thing for IBS is a low fat, high fiber diet.
I am doing the above, not to mention, I'm on a cocktail of meds. But it really depends on what type of symptoms you may have as to how they would treat it.

They're actually starting to say that anyone diagnosed with IBS, or anyone with symptoms of IBS should be checked for celiac disease. Here's a link to the information by the National Institutes of health about celiac.

If that sounds like something that may be going on there are a couple of really good message boards that you can visit to find out more information.

I hope you feel better soon.
