If the purity of the water supply where you live isn't monitored regularly and controlled accordingly, you could have a problem of ingesting too much mineral or additive, and I'm thinking fluoride here. If you're a woman and drink excessive amounts of fluoridated water while you're pregnant, your child's teeth will almost certainly be quite discoloured. Tough and decay-resistant sure, but yukky to look at. Some of the other answers have mentioned diabetes (mellitis), but there's diabetes insipidus also with which a person drinks copious amounts. 8 glasses isn't excessive, but if you're drinking significant quantities of other liquids such as fruit juice, soft drinks, tea and coffee I'd suggest a visit to your doctor for a proper blood sugar test and evaluation of your symptoms.

I love how someone stated that it might be diabetes, if this was the case water is one of the better things to drink when you have that. Never the less you didnt state if this was by choice or if you just get thirsty. If by choice 8 glasses a day or more is great. Water is always great for your body.
As far as if this is not by choice i would say check your sugar and if it is by chance diabetes then water is not hurting you. This is not a place to ask medical advice though try webmd.com as you get real MD awnswers there and not a bunch of kids bored because they dropped out.

Drinking more than 13 quarts in a day can flush out electrolytes in your system. Make sure you are keeping up your sodium intake if you increase the amount of water you drink. 8 8oz glasses is 64oz of water in one day, so change it up with Gatorade or Powerade every now and then to balance the electrolytes. Eat something like wheat crackers or pretzels to balance the salts. But in short, no, it won't do damage to your kidneys, unless you are only drinking water and not eating.

Firstly, have you been tested for diabetes lately? If not then do that. 8 glasses a day is fine...so is 10.

If you are drinking considerably more than this then that would not be healthy. Some people have actually become fairly unwell through drinking vast quantities of water. (Much much more than you seem to be drinking though)

Hope that helps.

Hi, I can not tell if you are making your self drink allot of water or you are thirsty allot. If you have thirst that can not be quenched then it is a sign of diabetes like others on this thread have mentioned. I think more than 8 glasses will flush your body but will also carry nutrients and vitamins with it and thus make you deficient. Therefore I think more than 8 glasses would not be good for you.

I wouldn't think it would damage your system, but are you drinking the water because you want to or are you really thirsty lately. If thirsty, you may have a medical problem such as diabetes.Check with your Dr.
Also I have always heard people drink more water in the winter then the summer,I know pets do.

8-10 is normal. it varies by person dependent upon what size you are. there's actually some equation you can do to find out how much water is ideal for you to drink. but...you CAN overwork your kidneys if you drink ridiculous amounts of water every day. i wouldn't drink too much more than 10 glasses a day.

Drinking 8 or more glasses of water to a maxium of 12 is healthy, an absurd amount would be 10 litres....don't drink that much you could flood your kidneys....but it's almost impossible to drink that much anyway...like really who has that much time.

I dont think it will damage your system, in fact it is probably good for you. However, if you are staying thirsty all the time there may be an underlying medical condition causing it, such as diabetes, etc. If that is the case you should see your doctor. Otherwise, you are just fine.
