I try going with the flow, if I feel like getting out I go, if not I stay in. If you feel this is too much of a problem you may try therapy. I feel like we all don't have to follow the norm, for there is not a true norm, it is mostly made up. Make sure you have a good support system, which sounds like you already have. Just find what makes you feel good and comfortable. I am looking into on line education myself. Or you can check into an alternate schooling based on your needs. GOOD LUCK TO YOU! I have Manic Depression and Bi-personality disorder. Find what works for you.

That happened to me about two years ago. One thing that I found helped a lot... Go tanning. I know it's not the safest thing to do... But it's totally fine as long as you are not there for too long and don't do it more often than once every two weeks or so. Call the different saolons and see which one is less busy, and time they have the fewest people there. When you leave the house in the middle of the day, you can pick your favorite music and BLAST it out as loud as you can stand it, it kind of makes every one else dissapear. Then also talk to your doctor and see if he can up the dose. Good Luck!!!

You may have seasonal depression but have you ever considered that you may have Social Anxiety Disorder? Most of the symptoms that you describe point directly to Social Anxiety Disorder. You sound exactly like me and I have Social Anxiety Disorder. I take 30mg. of Diazepam ( Valium ) and 75 mg. of Effexor per day.

Check out the links below and see is Social Anxiety Disorder describes how you feel........

If so a Psychiatrist NOT a family doctor is the best way to seek treatment. A Psychiatrist specializes in field of treatment where a family doctor does not.

yeah, i've had the same problem every year for the past decade. i've went on effexor, lithium, went through countless hours of therapy trying to determine why i was panicky, tired as hell, shaky, depressed, disconnected and unable to function through the fall/winter season. (although meds and therapy do help, it was the same crap over and over again every year with no permanent solution, making each year more and more unbarable)

this year, on a whim i bought a full spectrum desk lamp on the internet and I use it for a couple of hours everyday. guess what? SAD symptoms are barely even there. im not panicky and i can actually go out of the house without those horrible thoughts and sensations of doom. i actually feel almost normal this winter. no meds, no therapy. just the calm and confident feeling that everythings gonna be ok.

You might need to try changing your medication. also, try buying some of the daylight lightbulbs (not the light treatment machines that cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars) - that might help if this is a seasonal thing.

The more bright light you encounter, the more it could help. It sounds like your depression is translating into agoraphobia (or however it is spelled). I had that one time, but it was due to severe physical illness - as I got better, I felt more comfortable leaving the house.

Counceling or new meds are probably your best bets.

Good luck.

Then don't leave the house, but if you know that you want to leave the house, start taking mental preparation that you won't be afraid when you go outside, you'll get used to it, it'll get better, you'll be perfect. Etc. Believe these things, it should help rather than deluding and confusing yourself with all types of medicines where self discipline should've been instead.

sounds like your medication isn't working well for you. talk with your doctor. finding the right medication(s) that work for you, takes some trial & error. I suffer from SAD & clinical depression, so I can sympathize with you. right now I take Lexapro & Sinequan. talk with your doctor. you don't have to feel like that.
