ALL MALE CATS SHOULD BE NEUTERED FOR THAT REASON. When will people learn... they need to be neutered before they even reach sexual maturity not after...

anyways, YES it will stop the marking. We've neutered many male cats at our shelter that were adults and made perfectly good cats, no marking or anything. So do it ASAP. If by any chance after he is still spraying then he is probably unhappy or stressed about the environment he is in (perhaps your boyfriend wanting to "kill" him isn't giving good vibes in the house) There are plug ins to reduce stress for cats and also treat the areas he has sprayed in to get rid of the smell. The sooner he is neutered, the sooner your problem will be solved.

Neutering your cat should help, but it's not a 100% guarantee. Depends how old he is and how long he's been spraying.
Get a copy of Cat Confidential by Vicki Halls - she'll tell you all about why he's doing it - might be not enough access to litter tray(s), fear of your b/f, or fear of other moggies on his patch. There are 'happy sprays' you can get to make cats feel relaxed around the house, if he doesn't feel threatened he shouldn't spray.
One thing is important, you've got to get rid of the pee smell - once that's gone your half way there. Google for a variety of preparations to help, or ask your vet. If they're any good, they'll help you get sorted out.
We've got seven indoor moggies, all neutered, 4 females, 3 males and none of them have ever sprayed.
If it's a choice between the b/f and the cat, lose the b/f everytime - plenty of male cat lovers out there to chose from!
Good luck.

Yes, of course he will stop spraying. That's a big part of the reason that people get their cats neutered (it also helps with the overflow of pets found in animal shelters.) This is why you should always have your pets spayed/neutered. If you can't afford to pay for the operation, you can't afford the pet. Anyway, a male operation only costs around 100$.
And if you can't handle normal cat behaviours, then give the cat to the humane society and buy a stuffed animal.
Your boyfriend sounds like a moron, by the way. Are you sure you want to be with someone like that? He may end up killing you some day.

How old is your cat? An adult cat that has the habit of spraying may or may not spray after being neutered. I've had friends that had experiences both ways. I always get my cats neutered or spayed when they are still very young and none of my males sprayed. I say it would be worth a try.

Neutering might work quite well. It will remove the hormones that causes him to desire to mark territory. If he's done it for a long time, however, he might continue just because it's a habit, and you need to tell him off every time he does it and TRAIN him not to do it (in addition to neutering, of course).

Spraying is different from weeing, and if he's doing that everywhere and not in the litterbox, it's most probably because there was some change recently in the house that he hasn't adjusted to yet (it could be something small like changing the litter, moving the box, changing his food, getting a new sofa... or it could be someone moving out/in or something like that).

You have about a 50/50 chance of stopping the cat from spraying if you have him neutered. It's worth a try, besides your cat will be healthier if you have it done.

get rid of the boyfriend. I would not want to live with anyone who displays psychopathic tendencies.
You should in any case have the cat neuitered. Yes it will help stop him spraying but will also stop him wandering off looking for females, and from fighting, or fathering litters of unwanted kittens.,

male cats will spray to mark territory. you are his mate. he is marking because you have the audacity to wanrt a human mate--go figger. so, take kitty to the vets, have him altered. go to the petstore, purchase natures miracle--wash all the areas kitty sprayed--if carpet, buy a bissell or other cheap brand of carpet steamer, and steam the carpets. when done, natures miracle the clean places--there should be no more stinky.
always try to neuter the male kitty before the hormones become active--you'd rather be his mom than his mate!!!
