Download WIN RAR (http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10583567.html?tag=lst-0-2) and then install it. When you right click on your slected file now the option will come up to extract files. Win rar will load and then choose where you want the destination folder to be and then click on extract (it is fairly straight forward to use).

A good free program is 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) which can unpack a rar file. If you want to create rar files, then winrar is probably the most used program. It costs about $30 from www.rarlab.com, but I think you can use it in demo mode for a month. But try 7-Zip, it's great and it's open-source!

If 7zip doesn't work well for you, IZArc is always a nice free tool. I'm not sure if it's freeware or open-source, but at least you don't have to pay.
