well it wouldnt let me import it says wrong kind of film please make sure camera is pluged in (it is) and start a new clear window and it wont let me import the camera is sony model no. DCR-IP5E and micromv digital handycam IP

iMovie is compatible with most DV format devices...however, the DCR-IP5 records in mpeg2 format, and it's not listed in the iMovie equipment compatibility list:

An adaptor would be needed to convert the output from the DCR-IP5 to DV format.

WRONG KIND OF FILM perhaps?
or the camera may not be plugged in.
