My springer is GREAT with my 3 kids who are all under 6. He is pretty calm although likes to play and run every chance he gets. Very smart and trainable. However, my wife had two springers prior to this and they were hyper. They were good with kids but high energy dogs. In general, springers are friendly, happy dogs who like to be around and please people. But they do need attention and the opportunity to burn off energy.

Usually - Welsh springer spaniels tend to be more reserved with strangers, not as outgoing as the English springer spaniels and are great with kids and other pets. English springer spaniels are also great with kids but these dogs are very out-going (the type of dog who likes everyone). If you're looking at an Engligh springer, you need to be careful what you're getting. The springers coming from a hunting line will be much more hyper and harder to control than one from a line of show dogs. Both are a good choice with kids, just know which temperament you want - talk to the breeder and see the parents of a puppy you're considering.

Maybe, here are some info that will help u decide if u still want ur springer spaniel: 1 they may become destructive and bark a lot if they are left alone. 2 They are sensitive to the tone of one's voice and will not listen if they sense that they are stronger minded than their owner, however they will also not respond well to harsh discipline. Owners need to be calm, yet possess an air of natural authority. 3 The temperament shows depending upon how the owners treat the dog and how much and what type of exercise they provide. 4 Usually they are good with other pets but since they are natural fowl hunters they should not be trusted with birds. Sometimes argumentative with other dogs if owners do not communicate clearly who is in charge. 5 They should have chances to take daily long walks or jogs where the dog is made to heel beside or behind the human, never in front, as in a dog's mind, the leader leads the way. I hope this helps!!! Good luck!!!

Like any breed described as "good with children", a Springer Spaniel must be accustomed to children. Any dog that is not well socialized with children will not behave predictably around them.
I think they are good dogs but every family is different, just like every dog. In my experience this breed requires more care and maintenance then some other breeds.
Learn more about the breed before you decide. Here is a good website that should answer all your questions.

I have a one year old springer. I wouldn't suggest having them around very small children as they tend to be hyper and might knock them down. Children over 7 will love this breed as they will spend hours playing in the garden. Fantastic temperament. Needs loads of exercise and get quite big. If your looking for a smaller, less energetic breed, I strongly recommend the cavalier king charles spaniel. I grew up with one and they are the perfect house pet and are great for children. Good luck

Our whole family either owns or has owned at one point in time Springer Spaniels and they are wonderful dogs. I would suggest one anytime, they have good temperaments and are very smart dogs. Yes they can be active / hyper, but all dogs can and remember a good dog is a tired dog. And I would suggest no matter what dog you get make sure you get it training with the whole family. The better trained the happier dog owner you will be. Best of luck!

I've grown up with Springers basically all of my life. They can be hyper depending on their background of breeding. There are field bred springers and bench bred. The fields are going to be more hyper generally. They need exercise. If you do not have a large fenced in yard that they cannot get out of, then you don't need a springer.
They are good with kids though with proper training, like with any puppy.

Springers are very active busy dogs who were bred to hunt and they need alot of exercise and training. They nned to be busy and active to be happy. They will get bored easily and can be destructive if not given something to do.
This can be the case with most hunting breeds.
Many hunting breeds are not the best with small children as they will run over them,
Depending on the ages of your children you may not want to bring a dog into the home right now but wait until the kids can really appericate the pet.
Also look at dogs that will fit into your lifestyle. If you hate to groom do not get something that takes alot of grooming time. Do not get something really active if you are couch potatoes. It will dirve you and the dog nuts .

Yes, Springers are good with kids. We had one when I was younger. The only thing is some get this disorder called Springer Syndrome. As far as I know it's not very common but it's good to check with your vet before making any final decisions.
