Good example of what happens during classical conditioning. Your dog doesn't know right from wrong.....he doesn't know that it's WRONG to use the bathroom in the house. When he was being housetrained, he was conditioned to the environment of the house for being his place to use the bathroom. He wasn't conditioned to the environment of outside. When he feels the urge, the house environment triggers his response that it is okay to let go. I know someone who has a dog that when being housetrianed, lived in a large town and the only place for the dog to pee was under cars. Well now, the dog WILL NOT pee unless shes under a car. My dog will not go unless he's in the grass..he'll hold it all day if he's on floors or concrete, etc. THis is a hard situation to reverse it takes a good while. Just be VERY VERY consistent and scold when you catch him peein in the house and gives lots and lots or praise for peeing outside. Keep him in a crate (he won't use the bathroom where he sleeps) when you aren't around or can't watch him so he won't ahve the chance to go and you not catch him in the act. It will slowly reverse.

You have accidently conditioned him to go inside. Now you have to condition him to go outside. Take him out and do not walk him, give him the word for him to go. I used "hurry up" (just don't ever say it in the house, cause he will). If he doesn't go, which he likely won't the first time, take him back in and watch him. He should go for it like he always does, when he starts clap your hands sharply and send him out. Once outside, repeat 'hurry up'. If he goes give him a treat, make a huge fuss over him. You may have to do this a few times, before you get any result. Patience wins out in the end. After he goes potty, then he gets his walk. Stick to this routine. You're building a new habit, it takes time but most dogs learn real quick.

My dog did that for the longest time. We would walk and walk and walk and he would sniff forever but never go. Finally I would give up and as soon as we came inside he would go on the carpet. The only that worked for me is whenver he did it I rubbed his nose in it and said "potty no" and spanked his butt one or two times then took him to the grass and said "potty yes" and then tied him up outside for about 30 minutes then I would let him come in and every 30 minutes take him outside and said "go potty" and it took about 2-3 weeks but it worked! It just takes patience from you! Good Luck!

If there is any lingering odor in your carpet or flooring from where the dog went before, they will continue to go inside. You need to go and get an enzyme based odor remover and treat the area where the dog goes.

He's confused. When he does his business inside, show it to him...tell no and take him outside. And always, I mean always, praise him when he does his business outside.
