Assalamu' Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Brakatuhu!

It might be unbelievable for you might say that you are cautious but it is true! We probably eat at least one thing if not more that either contains alcohol or animal fatening!!
I did not knew until i discovered www.muslimconsumergroup.com.
Did you know that the ingredients change in all products every 6 month to a year??
To name some of the items i've seen Muslims eating that are haram are:
Doritos Chips (all haram)
Pringles pizza flavor
Mcdonalds
Cheetos
Vanilla Ice Creams (breyers, edys) I called the breyers company myself and they said they use alcohol to make vanilla ice cream but when it comes out there's no alcohol in it (It still contains alcohol!!!)
Starburst candies
Life Savers
And much more!!!
But the ingredients do change often so we have to keep checking!
What do you guys think?

Sure! It means Peace, Mercy and Blessings of Allah be unto you!
That's how Muslims greet one another every time they meet!

Artist, if there's no halal product at all whatsoever, then you should go to kosher. I heard that even some kosher products contain animal ingredients and alcohol but you really gotta find out first. There are productus with kosher symbol but they are also halal so you can consume those.

And chewing gum...you can check out halal gums. Like a while back wrigleys gums were haram but now they are halal according to the muslim consumer website. And there's new gum called stride, we called twice to ask them about the ingredients and so far that is halal.

aali_and_haarith, ok the keenex tissues are haram because they contain pork fattening. The christian and jews food are only allowed when there is no halal available at all! I think the website is pretty good because they are working really hard to help all the Muslims! Besides the guy who owns the website worked with the food companies for over 30 years and plus he's also a food scientist! We should be extremely careful because pork, alcohol and other animal derived ingredients are used openly and widely! I hope i answered you well and did not offend you inshallah!

Alaikum Assalam wr wbt

Interesting site. My one complaint is that it goes too far. Allah has said not to eat pork so we don't. We try not to eat things with pork fat or any other pork in them (like bacon etc). But things like Kleenex tissues? Ok that goes a bit far for me.
Not to mention, it seems they disregard kosher.

One more thing, the Quran also says the food by people of the book is permissable to us. I was just reading something last night about the other verse in the quran that says we can eat the food if the name of Allah is pronounced over it - basically food from jews, christians, and of course muslims. It's all the same God remember? Anyway...

The website is good but goes a bit too far.... let's not make the deen harder than it is.

salaam alikoum sister. It's funny because I just got into a little tiff with my best friend over skittles. I was eating them and she said "That is Haram!" and I started to laugh at her. She proved to me that they were.
It's too bad about those Doritos too.
But I try to eat healthy with fruits and vegetables mostly, because at least I know where they are coming from! (from God) but I remember I couldnt eat meat at all before I moved to a big city with Halal meat offered in grocery stores. It can be a challenge sometimes in the West if you are Muslim!
Even out in the middle of nowhere where I used to live- they offered Kosher food at every grocery store... so it's a little bit tougher for brothers and sisters to eat well according to Islam!

I am very proud of you my sister. You are doing a good jihad for the soul. I knew this already. I educated my sister in law and brother in law, but they don't listen. It says gelatin right on the package, but they still allow their children to have it. I also do not chew gum because it also has alcohol in it. Some have gelatin. The best thing to eat is fruits and vegetables.

Just want to add on the the alcohol thing.

Alcohol does NOT fully cook out of anything! Don't be fooled by that line.
Most does but not all.

If it says "real vanilla extract" there is alcohol.
