If so, for how long? And my main question is, is it for every blood test?

It depends on what the blood test is for. I had to fast when I was getting blood work done to see if I was hypoglycemic. Your doctor will let you know of any special instructions before the test is done.

It really depends on what your blood is being tested for. Just for a general chemisty profile or a CBC(complete blood count), you won't need to fast. For something like a lipid profile(cholesterol) or an A1C(diabetic test) you typically do need to fast. The doctor should let you know. Most tests require anywhere from an 8-12 hour fast.

depends on what you're being tested for. 8-12 hours is usually sufficient. Most often your told "nothing but water after midnight" and have the blood drawn the next morning when the office opens. A couple of the things you will usually fast for are blood sugar and cholesterol. You don't need to fast for CBC or simple chemistry levels.

It depends on the test, some you do some it doesn't matter. They usually tell you when giving you the lab requisition form. If they didn't specify I would call your doctor, or call the lab you are going to and they can tell you what is required for your specific test.

Make sure you find out at least the day before you plan on going in to the lab because some tests require fasting for 12 hours.

You only need to fast for the lipid panel. For that you fast 12 hours. The rest do not require a fast. I'm talking standard tests here. Certain special tests (example: glucose tolerance test) require fasting. Ask your doctor if any of the tests he ordered require a fast.

Some blood tests yes, some no. I know you have to fast if they are running a test for cholesterol and triglycerides. I believe you need to fast for about 12 hours. That means no food and no drink (except for what you need to take any medication you're on). If you're uncertain if you need to fast, check with your doctor. It would suck to fast to find out that you didn't need to.

it depends on the test,,,, get instructiosn from the person who will adminster the test, even then, policies can vary for some test,,, i have had thyroid level test, advised both to fast and not fast,,,,,, i would think the ones checking for a virus ,drug, etc, as opposed to how your body is handling/what levels it has,,, of something, would make a big difference,,,,,, you dont need to fast for virual /detect a foreign thing blood test
