that says Jesus was descended from King David through his FATHER JOSEPH. A complete contradiction.

Nowhere is the Virgin Birth dealt with in the rest of the bible in fact in Acts it is clearly said that Jesus is of the SEED of David. By saying SEED it is obvious they mean he is of royal blood on the male line.

Is it possible that the Virgin Birth meant something other than physical Virginity?

YES

It means it is made up to try to make Jesus seem more than a the son of a carpenter.

Without that the bible wouldn't be much of a novel would it

lol nope, by the seed of David its only meaning by apotive purposes. See 2000 years ago to adopt you only had to nam an orphan, when Joseph named Jesus (by the suggestion of the angel obviously) he therefore legally adopted him. And Joseph being the the line of David, Jesus became so. You had also better read your Old Testament too, the virgin birth is discussed in Isaiah chapter 7, specifically verse 14, and you have to understand that seed in that context meant descendant, adopted children would all be talked about this way. God is called in Hebrews our "Abba Father" which translated "adotion father" and we are called in his seed by the same term numerous times, does this mean we are the Son of God too? Or does this just mean adoption?

So what if mentioned only in 2 books of New Testament and prophesied too in Old Testament, the most important is God said it (even once is enough for a God, meaning "I`m not kidding guys!") from the line of King David.
Don`t be too mechanical in your thinking, if Jesus came as son of human Joseph and Mary sexual "conception", then He cannot be called Son of God.
Jesus just pass by Mary`s womb to have human flesh, and everything is Divine...Mary was overshadowed/transfer of seed by the Holy Spirit and Jesus spirit is full of God`s Spirit, thus He is a God, though Mary`s physical virginity (have no sexual relation yet with Joseph but came pregnant as the angel said) and gave birth as virgin too.
This is so...to prevent Jesus to have "original sin" (sin of disobedience of adam & eve in the garden of Eden)...and make Him absolutely no sin because He is a God in human form to SAVE the world. So, He is entirely different from human being...that makes Him a "Son God", "Son of Man"

Both Joseph and Mary were of the lineage of the house of David. He had to have a human "agent" or "host" in order for Him to atone for our sins by His vicarious sacrifice on the cross. Furthermore, in reading the Gospel of Matthew which was essentially written to the Jews, it says in Ch 1 v16 that Joseph was the husband of Mary, and it was of Mary whom Jesus was born. Note: it only says that Joseph was her husband and not the father of Jesus. Secondarily, in Dr. Luke's account in verse 22 of Ch 3, we have the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus and G-d's voice declares to the world "Thou art my beloved Son" and in the genealogy which follows it is stated parenthetically that it was supposed (underscore and bold it) that Jesus was the son of Joseph. Remember also, please, that G-d wrote the Bible. He used human agents, but, and this is according to scripture, the Bible is Theopneustra (G-d Breathed) according to 2 Timothy 3:16 and do you really believe that G-d would (or need to) lie? Especially where the birth of Jesus was concerned.

Hmmmm....
you know..
That actually is a good question seeing there are so many euphamisms in the bible.
In this particular story though I would have to say it's physical virginity because it states that mary was with child of the holy ghost before she married joseph...also upon hearing her fate by the angel of god she asked how can this be seeing I know not a man...
so in my opinion it was physical virginity.
also it states that Joseph was of the house of David

the biggest undeniable actuality that strikes the reader of John's Gospel is that he makes easily no connection with the employer of the Eucharist in the course of the most suitable Supper of Jesus which include his Apostles.-- a miles better eyebrow-elevating ingredient, do not you imagine !! yet your rationalization inverts the reason that would want to be genuine in the Gospel of Luke, that Mary herself instructed him. so that you teach too a lot as they say.

The bible also says that Moses was the son of the daughter of Pharaoh. The daughter of Pharaoh is the one who raised Moses, but she wasn't his real mother. It's not a contradiction. If my "genetic" father wasn't around when I was growing up, but my mom married before I was even born and they stayed together after I was born - I would come to call him father, even if he wasn't my real father, and nobody else would know otherwise.
Your name is Judas for a reason, huh? I'd be careful if I were you, you might just end up like your name-sake.

The virgin birth arises out of a mistranslation from the Hebrew scriptures.

The two genealogies are different.

The right of inheritance is passed on by the father, so Joseph could pass on his royal lineage.
