Yes......I got my yorkie puppy's first shots at this time......and she weighed barely a pound. Some vets may not do it though, but mine said it was fine and my puppy is 7 months old now and perfectly healthy! Idealy you should wait til 6 weeks, but sometimes that's not possible

It's not really case of how many trips do you want to take......your dogs need 2 sets of shots anyway.....I had the rabies done at a seperate visit because my puppy was very small and they get kind of sick from it, which is normal. But it's only about a day so nothing too severe. I am a vet science student who is currently working with a DVM who has had a practice for about 20+ years.

Doesn't matter whether you start at 6 weeks or 8 or whatever, you DO NOT need a third set of shots. YOu need 2 sets plus a rabies. People who tell you you need 3 sets are either vets looking for more money or people who have been misinformed. The guy I work with has been doing this for 20+ years.......and NEVER had a problem with it. He is a very sought out vet. YOu can find resources on the internet that will say this as well.

Hi. I spoke to my Vet concerning this question when I had my second litter of pups and want to sell them with their first shots. His explanation was....It is recommended by the veterinarian college that the first set of shot be given at 8 weeks of age, with a booster 12 weeks....rabies at 16 weeks. The reasoning is that pups younger than 8 weeks may still have maternal antibodies in their circulation that would neutralize the antigens in the shot before the pup developes an immune response. When shots are given early the vets then recommend a third series be given. In my opinion this just adds to the cost of immunizing the puppies. Also with concerns of immunization induce autoimmune diseases I prefer to follow a less is better policy. After my conversation with this Vet I no longer home a puppy before 8 weeks of age so as to adhere to the recommend regiment. When I asked the Vet why they gave shot earlier his response was as pups are generally placed earlier than 8 weeks it was in his opinion to be safer to give the shot than risk exposure of the puppy in their new environment and then adjust the regimen as needed.

Some of the shots, yes. Puppies are like babies, in that they need their immunizations to stay healthy. The puppy for sure can have its' Provo shot, but is too young for the rabies.
You should schedule an appointment with your vet.
