In my mind there are two types of hunters and two types of hunting......
The first type of hunter is the one who enjoys nature and really does not care if they get that big buck. They hunt because they love the experiance of watching that squirrel sitting 10 feet away, or having a deer walk so close you could reach out and touch it. They hunt to put meat in the freezer and if they don't, its not a big deal, but they love know that the meat they have was something they worked for and earned. If they don't like the meat, the always make sure to have someone who will take it.
The other type is the ones who hunt just to say they shot that big buck, or the big bear or whatever. The shot the animal, take the horns and could really care less about what happens to the rest of the animal.....They don't care about conservation, they don't care what happens to the rest of the animals as long as they get the trophy.
Those are the ones the antis see. They don't realize that a majority of hunter love what we do. They also don't realize that we do more for the protection and conservation of game animals that they do.....who do you think pays for all of the new game reserves and management areas...the hunters paying for the tags a permits to hunt. Who do you think manages them, the people who enjoy the animals, most of the hunters themselves, who really understand what is involved. All antis see is killing. THey don't understand what will happen if hunting were banned. The don't see and refuse to see. We hunters do more for protecting the animals we hunt than any person sitting behind some desk saying stop killing animals......I for one am proud of that...and I will continue to enjoy my time in the field and to pass on the true meaning of hunting, the ethics involved, and the proper ways to ensure a good clean hunt to my children and anyone else willing to listen.

and how does that man or woman experience concerning the techniques chickens, pigs, and purple meat livestock are killed? those are much less humane than looking! Have they ever been to a slaughterhouse? i desire the guy who left you that remark is a vegan. whether they are, what approximately each and all the animals killed by habitat lost to agriculture? the place does this man or woman think of that vegetables come from? they are grown on land that maximum flora and fauna can no longer use through way modern-day farming (agribusiness) is finished. What concerning the actuality that vegetation are alive, too? What concerning the bacteria that infect those with ailments? do no longer they have a impressive to stay, too? additionally, almost all of deer die from starvation, predation, or freezing. Being shot by a hunter is plenty extra humane for the deer. would this man or woman get excitement from being attacked by a mountain lion and partly eaten jointly as they are nonetheless alive? Or ravenous or freezing to dying? No residing factor can exist without promptly or circuitously killing another residing issues. there is not any longer something incorrect approximately this. it particularly is the way existence has labored ever for the reason that there has been existence.

Anti hunters ,some of them I suppose are like seal protesters who often include big names (stars) backing up organizations who make millions$$$ from bleeding heart donate rs .These people rig scenes and bring up pics. of things that were allowed many years ago and show the uninformed world of TV watching public. There are volumes to be said about their antics but not enough space here. Initially I meant to say how I enjoy hunting to the point where one year I saw 7 moose on my first day out across lake from cabin ,easy shooting range all, passed them all up and spent almost 2 months of weekends much the same.Almost last day before X.Mas nailed a large bull with no racks, but we saw lots of country and all that goes with it.Wife and daughter were pi$$ed off with me off course.I.m new here in answering area and really enjoy seeing positive hunting comments.

I am certainly not against hunting - I love a bit of venison. I am convinced that those people who are so anti-hunting have never actually encountered a wild animal that wanted to hurt them or kill a pet or one of their livestock. They have also probably never had a deer total their car or see the results of deer overpopulation. What could be more cruel than letting an animal starve to death slowly or die of a disease? Some folks really have their priorities screwed up.

I routinely get into it with anti-hunters.
My theory is that segments of our society have two major problems: Anthropomorphism and Feminization.
"Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics and qualities to non-human beings, objects, natural, or supernatural phenomena. A form of personification (applying human or animal qualities to inanimate objects), anthropomorphism is similar to prosopopoeia (adopting the persona of another person). Animals, the forces of nature, and unseen or unknown authors of chance are frequent subjects of anthropomorphosis."
The biggest perpetrator of this social disease is the entertainment media. Disney children's cartoon for example. A few hundred years ago, no one in their right mind would feel emotional about the death of an animal. They are, after all, just animals. Today, children are conditioned at a very early age that "animals are human" and have emotions, feeling, etc. We have raised now generations of folks, mostly urban, who think that a deer in the woods has a cognitive mind, hopes, dreams and the "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". That some "neanderthal barbarian" is going in the woods to kill poor Bambi is akin to predatory murder in these people's minds.
Also, the trend the past few generations is not just equality and a place in society for women (which I think is only right and just, BTW) but that masculine traits and tendencies are "wrong".
Just look at most TV advertisements. Family Dads are depicted are childish oafs. Oprah's show's theme could be summed as "Women good, Men bad". The role of the man in today's family has been marginalized to the point of being unnecessary. Aggressive games on the school playground are banned, games like chase and dodgeball, by our well-meaning but horribly misguided Education professionals. Boys who exhibit overly masculine traits are labeled "problems". Too many teenaged boys are being raised in single woman households and the feminine qualities of the homosexual lifestyle are portrayed as acceptable and normal.
Teddy Roosevelt is rolling over in his grave at what's going on and I see the downfall of Western Civilisation looming if this trend continues.

I agree that hunting is necessary especially deer. Otherwise the deer population would explode and you would have problems that would arise from that. Plus eating meat I believe is also necessary. There have been many studies that say people that eat meat have way more muscle mass than people who don't eat meat. People that eat meat have better immune systems than people who don't eat meat. People that eat meat have more iron in their diets than people who don't eat meat. The people who don't eat meat are not as healthy as they claim to be, they also have to take vitamins to supplement their lacking diets. Scientists say that vitamin absorption is way more efficient when it comes in the form of actual food and not very efficient when it comes to taking pills. Anti-hunters are people who don't have open minds and are very stubborn. They have made their mind up about something and they are not going to be persuaded to change their mind. Hence they are close minded. These people usually are very liberal and ignore facts, statistics, and most importantly logic just to prove a point. However, the only point they are proving is that they are ignorant and stubborn. Take care and if you kill a deer be sure to send some of that deer sausage my way. I love that stuff. Happy Holidays.

I'm not an anti and I never will be.I came from a place where fat, lazy, pampered city folk that never saw what their food looked like before it got to the store abound.I would never and will never think like that.EVER.
There's also a third type of hunter. He goes to the woods to enjoy the hunt, and to walk with God.No better time to spend with God than in the woods,in the best thing he created.
I like being able to know where my food came from.

not at all. a few years ago, the deer population in michigan was so out of control huge that the DNR lifted limitations on how many hunters could kill. i don't think there's anything wrong with hunting. in fact, it's beneficial, especially in this type of situation. animals hunt each other. it's the natural order of things. i like meat. it's tasty.

Hunting is still used by many to feed their families and to survive throughout the year.
Hunting is also misused by many because they want the big grizzly or African lion and have them caged and shoot through the cage and say they killed them or drug them up so they don't have a sporting chance.
IMO if you go out hunting something and kill it, then you'd better darn well eat it and not let it go to waste. You should also go out and hunt it in it's natural habitat and give it a chance to escape. That's hunting.
There are 2 sides to every argument and neither side should be extreme in their views.
