A guinea pig is better because its easier to take care of. But a dog is just so cute and cuddly. I say there even.

Very few guinea pigs will fetch but, they will Whoop Whoop when you come in their area. Dogs can be house trained, I've never seen a guinea pig that was. Pigs need veterinarian care just as dogs. Guinea pig's food comes in those 3lb bags and if you add it up it costs more than dog food. They cant tolerate cold weather like a dog. They prefer 65 degrees or better. You can put them on a leash if you walk real slow. I don't recommend buying a Frisbee for a Guinea pig. However they are easier for younger kids to manage. Good Luck, just love whatever you get.

I would go with a dog. They're fun to play with and they can be very loyal companions if they are trained properly. While both a dog and a guinea pig are big responsibilities, one doesn't necessarily need more care than the other. I just like dogs better because they really are like real people. Guinea pigs can be mean.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'what is better'?
Do you mean 'better' as in terms of comparing the two species or do you mean 'better' as in terms for a family pet?
Here is my comparison of the two:
Guinea pigs:- There are many different kinds of guinea pig, Abyssinian, shaggy shelties, silky satins and wavy rexes to name just a few. Forget all that (unless it's very important to you) What you need is a short haired guinea pig. They are easy to look after and just as pretty as their long haired cousins.
Buy at least two guinea pigs. They get lonely on their own. You must get guinea pigs of the same sex (two boys or two girls) or you will very quickly have more guinea pigs than you can handle. If you are going to have more than two then you should get females as males will fight. Choose your guinea pigs from a litter that is at least six weaks old.
The puppies (baby guinea pigs) that you choose should be plump and well fed, should have bright eyes and clear ears and nose, and should have shiny, silky fur all over including under the bottom. Guinea pigs make excellent pets and are actually quite intelligant!
Dogs:- Where do I start? There are thousands of different breeds and a lot are bred for different reasons. Showing, hunting, breeding, lap dogs..the list goes on.
If you are enquiring as to which is 'better' as a pet for your family then that all depends on yourself and your family. A guinea pig would be great for a family with smaller children and the same would go for a smaller dog with small children. Obviously depending on the breed, I think large dogs such as pit bulls, rottweiler's, japanese akita's and the likes are unsuitable as pets around small children.
A cavalier king charles for example would make a great pet around any age of family.
If you are considering which would be a better pet, weigh up the pro's and con's of having either species and decide whether it would be a good idea for you to have any at all. I personally love all animals but cats are better for me.
I hope I have answered your question.

Speaking from personal experience, I found guinea pigs harder to care for. They use their pens, of course, as a restroom and they smell really bad. Even if you get a puppy, they usually can be house trained. It is so much easier letting my dogs out the back door into our fenced in yard than having to take that big guinea pig pen and find a way to wash and clean and disinfect it, as well as find an easy way to dispose of the bedding and poop and pee. I also think dogs have a lot more personality although I have seen videos of people who have trained their guinea pig and have a really good relationship with them.

If you are looking for a low maintenance animal that is still loveable and you can still play with but will be alright while your out, I'd go with a guinea pig. Be careful about buying femals though. They breed really young and most end up pregnant already when you buy them from a store.
If you are looking for something a bit more hands on, if you have the time and patience, I'd go with the dog. They're more active, even in later years and are pobably a bit more expressive.

It depends on what you are looking for in a pet.
In some cases a guinea pig is a great pet if you love small animals, are willing to keep them clean, and dont have the time for dilligent training.
A dog may be better if you are willing to put in the time for training, and want a companion animal.

I would personally go with a dog. They are much more loveable. Where as guinea pigs sit in a cage. But, this is only because I have a 12 week old golden retriever.

i own both, it depends on how much time you have to be with the animal, a dog is a lot more work than a guinea pig.
