Bond, as in you really "like" it? My first car was a VW bug, I have had other cars, but I've always got a VW also. Now at the age of 50, I have 7 VW bugs, and I love them all. I have a 1971 that I drive to Los Angelos from Las Vegas, and it only costs 18.50 in gas to get there.
I am good to my bugs, and they are good to me. They are not fancy, or have all the extras that other cars have, but they are great little cars. Yes, bond is the word.

I cried when I gave up my Golf MkI for my MarkII. I cried louder when my MkII was written off by a boy racer who was uninsured three weeks after I got it and was sad to pass my MkIII on to my younger brother this summer. I also 'lost' my beloved Jetta early this year (I often have more than one vehicle at a time). I know about the love of a VW.
I currently still have a MKI Golf van (classic GTI body - yum yum) and drive a 1999 Polo 1.9 Diesel on a day to day basis.
My ex partner is a car mechanic and he gently reminds me when cars become unsafe, there is no room for sentiment and that's what enables me to bear the loss of them, but I agree, it's still hard as hell.
Love hurts!

I've never been attached to cars that much. I miss my Vauxhall Cavalier because I went all over the country in it last year and I miss my Scirocco too because I always wanted one and it was a great little car, but it had loads wrong with it so I had to get rid :( It was almost as old as me! But someone's saved it from the scrapyard apparently and it's being restored, respray and new interior and everything so that's good!

thing is, u can form a bond with almost anything, and a Vw beatle isn't the worst thing to form a bond with by a long shot. i hope nothing happens to it.

Because when you fall in love, you fall in love. That little VW Beetle has your heartstrings, go with it. May the love last forever.

The same way you can't seem to actually spell out the word "you" because that would mean typing an extra two letters. It's indicative of a personality type that, surprise surprise, feels emotional attachment to material possesions.

I know how you feel! My first car was a Golf MKII, and I still miss it terribly. I had to get it scrapped eventually, and it was heartbreaking. I wish I had kept it, even though I would never have been able to drive it on the roads.
Silly how we get so attached to our cars, isn't it?!
