There are several types of single phase induction motors, some of which can have their direction of rotation reversed. Your motor, being 230V, may be a split-phase induction motor. The direction is reversed by reversing the connections of the startup winding relative to the running winding. Wikipedia has a good discussion:

apan's answer is valid only for low power synchronous motors. Normally you have two electromagnetic fields generated in your single phase motor. One is the stator, the non-moving part of the motor. The other is the rotor, the spinning part of the motor. The current is fed to the rotor via brushes. The rotational sense is given by the relative polarity between stator current and rotor current. If you change the polarity of the entire system (the motor) there is no change in the relative polarity between rotor and stator. (both change - so they are still the same in respect to each other) To change the rotational direction you have to interchange the two wires going to the brushes (to the rotor)

Generally on the switch plate where you wire the motor there is a color chart coding the wires. If your motor rotates the wrong way then you will need to change one of the wires to a different contact or possibly switch two of the wires...you should look in the manual and if you dont feel comfortable consult an electrician - its a quick fix for someone who knows what they are doing.

It depends on the type of motor. The website below shows the induction motor types.

To reverse the direction, you reverse any one of the two windings.
