Access is a database engine. In order to get Access to do anything, you have to set it up to accept data, then regurgitate results in a form that is usable. Most Access databases are set up by professionals who do this for a living, although there are some smaller ones that are not set up by a pro.

If you want a spreadsheet then get a spreadsheet. If you don't have Excel, and don't wish to buy it, then the OpenOffice.org spreadsheet program works very well -- and it is FREE.

FREE.

Did I mention that OpenOffice.org has a spreadsheet, and a word processor, etc etc and that they work well, and they are free?

I have little experience with Microsoft Access, but I do know that the program comes with a "wizard" to guide you in creating a database. There is a learning curve to use it, so if you aren't familiar with databases it may take some time.

What is this project for? If it is a web-based database you are looking for, I recommend using MySQL with phpmyadmin software to administer it.
