The eaisest way to do this is to buy a combo DVD/VHs recorder and insert VHS tape in one side and transfer to a DVD disc on other side

Well now, the answer is quite simple, all you need is a DVD Recorder / Video Cassette Recorder in one normally called a combination unit and it plugs in to the back of your T.V set via the scart socket
( no software needed ) this means that you will be able to record from
VHS to DVD and vise visa DVD to VHS, not to mention that you can also record T.V programmes as well on to either DVD or VHS. if you look in Argos catalogue the will be a few in there to choose from, I use the LG model: RC1000 myself and find it very good as I have a camcorder and transfer my film from mini tape cassette's to DVD. the best thing is you don't have to mess about with the computer filling the hard drive up with software to do the conversion because to convert VHS which is analogue to digital DVD takes up a lot of hard drive space on your computer, hope this helps

By convert I am assuming you want to save VHS videos onto DVD playable discs.

First you will require a video card capable of video in, from your VCR. Next you require a video capturing program. Lastly you will need a DVD burner with the appropriate program to go along with it. Usually DVD burners will come with said program.

There are vast makes and models of all the equipment you require. My advice would to look up reviews on the popular networks such as CNET, ComputerShopper, and possibly Tom's Hardware.

Hope that helps you out.

You can do this without using a computer. You need a vhs player and a dvd recorder designed for use with a television. Hook the vhs player directly to the dvd recorder to transfer videotape to a dvd disc.

You will need some type of TV tuner card, so you can run your VHS player into your computer.
Then you will need some type of DVD burning software, and a DVD burner.

thats about it, really. A good electronics store or computer store like Office Depot or Best Buy should carry that.

You will need some kind of TV Tunner card to capture the audio/video from your VCR, and you will need a DVD burner to burn the files to DVD.

I personally have the ATI TV Wonder 650 and a HP DVD burner. Together they both do the job quite well.

You shouldn't have to worry about software, at least not upfront; because, both pieces of hardware will come with there own software. Though, depending on your needs, you may upgrade to better software down the road.
