I am trying to shed the last couple of kilos I need to (about 15 - which is alot less than what i started with), and was thinking of switching out solid food for say breakfast or lunch with a protein shake made with skim milk.

Looking at a 97% Whey Protein Concentrate, with a per 40g serve value of:

Protein: 30.1g
Carbs: 3.3g (1.6g from sugar)
Fat: 1.5g

Is this any good? Will it help me shift some of that lasting weight?

I am lazy as all hell too. I know exercise makes a difference but I seriously don't like it. Walking for an hour a day is about it - just in case it matters.

Any pointers would be much appreciated

Ok. You left out some important information..how many calories are in these shakes, what kind of vitamins and minerals are in them? These are important things.

If you are walking for an hour a day and are walking fast enough to get your heart rate up then you are probably doing enough and in time you should lose the weight if you are eating the right amount of calories. Protein shakes are a good idea if you are attempting to increase muscle mass, but I believe they are targeted more towards folks that work out with weights than folks that walk for exercise.

Your best bet to lose weight is to learn to eat a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables instead of using a short-term solution like protein shakes. This way the weight will stay off. You already have half the problem licked in the fact that you are walking, so why not double the benefit and spend a little time working on your diet. Replacing one meal a day with a shake might not be such a bad idea, if it is packed with protein, its probably not a bad thing..but doing it twice in one day may well deprive you of much needed vitamins, minerals and calories.

First to 'shed' fat, you need to do some cardio. Instead of walking for an hour a day; try jumping on an elliptical/treadmill and make sure your hitting your target heart rate for a full 20 minutes a day.

Protein is going to build muscle; thus you will gain weight because your increasing your lean body mass. The more lean body mass you have, the easier it is to burn fat. The protein your looking at seems ok, I would check to see how many calories are in it. Remember, you start 'lossing weight' when you burn more calories then you are taking in.

You can also go to our website and view some of our favorite protein drinks; their more fruity and easy to mix with water-they actually taste good. They average at 110 calories, 24g protein, .5 g fat, 1-2g carbs.

Your idea of exchanging 1 or 2 meals for a protien RICH drink is a good idea, BUT I would suggest that instead of a "PROTIEN" drink, you should opt for a Meal Replacement Drink such as the Shapeworks Formula 1.

What's the differance?

A Protien Drink may lack many of the nutrients your body needs and may actually sabotage your weight loss and health goals.

It is commonly accepted that the body needs certain nutrients such as Protien, Fiber, Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs and oils to function at it's best.

A "protien" drink may lack many of these, where a Meal Replacement Drink is specifically formulated to included most if not all the nutrients you should get in a meal.
