My daughter will even cry if he tries to pick her up or if I tell her to hug him. She has never acted like this before and I'm concerned that they will start to drift apart. His feelings are realy hurt. What do I do? Is this just a faze?

My husband works second shift and isn't always around during the week. Could that be why she is ignoring him?

The only times I ever saw this type of behavior was when the mother was overly protective and lacked positive discipline to the child. It could be just a phase, but look into the differences on how you deal with her compared to how the dad does. My youngest son who is 2 1/2 wanted nothing to do with my wife when I was around. We figured that my wife wasn't being enough of a disciplinarian. Once she started doing more of that that my son shows very little preference at all.

You could make it so she has to be taken care of by her father even leave the house at first then when she wants something when your there have him do it even when she cries so she can learn that both are good to her and will love her the same. I do feel that kids learn who will do what they want at a early age so just change it up a little

My daughter was just the opposite of this, she wanted her daddy not me, yet my son was like your daughter, me not dad, How old is she, my kids started this around 9-12 mo. and about 18 mo. it started getting better. we just spent as much time together as a family as we could, going to the park, laying on the floor playing etc, pls tell ur hubby it is just a stage and to keep trying to interact with her, trying to force her to go to daddy will only prolong the stage, good luck and give the daddy a few extra hugs :)

I'd be concerned, not that they'll drift apart, but that he might have done something that caused this behavior. I know you love your husband, but don't be blinded by that love. Avoidance can mean more then just a faze.

I have two sons, one daughter, all grown now. All of them, although with unique personalities, at one time preferred either only their mom or me. These phases didn't last long in retrospect, but seemed an eternity at the time. By the time this message is posted, she may already prefer him over you!

I think it's natural for kids to pick one, and then pick the other. Our 4 year old still does this, sometimes he's all 'mine' and tells my husband to "go 'way, go sit down" and other times he tells me "go 'way" and he still gets jealous if my husband gets too close to me or kisses me, he tries to push us apart. but when it's time to go somewhere, he wants both of us in the car. I understand if your husband feels hurt by her "rejection" but unless this continues to where she refuses to be near him for a really long time, then I would consult a child specialist. (I would also ask myself what's going on here, is she afraid of him for some reason)

Probably just a phase. But, has has he grown a beard or mustache lately or changed his hair? That may be throwing her off a little.
