Is it just the painter's confidence that makes him an artist, or is it someone else who decides?

I say I'm an artist. It's not painter's confidence and it's not someone else who says I am an artist. When a person picks up any instrument, be it a brush, pen, pencil or chalk and creates something that is a product of their own mind and effort, that person is an artist.

I think that we are all artists in one form or another,some draw , some sing. For some it is painting ,and others have a way with words. The only decision others can make about your art is IF they like it or not. It makes your art nothing less than what you intended it to be.

I have seen many creations by 'artists' that do not and will not sell. Conversely I have seen many artistic works by people who do not consider themselves artists. For myself I didn't consider myself an artist until someone paid money for one of my pictures.
Because that made 2 of us who thought my work was OK.

I am a piss artist and I decided that myself. Others agree with me so I suppose it's up to yourself.

Well, you decide weather you are an artist. It's everyone else who decides weather or not you're a good one.

It starts with the artist's belief in himself and then people around him will start to judge his creation and consider it if it's art or not. I dislike this hypocritical fact.

I think it's as simple as when someone attempts to create something artistically they qualify.
