You are not responsible for this guys problems. If you sold the car "as is" and it broke it's not your fault. You offered to get him the new part even though you did not feel responsible - good for you, he should have respected that. If he blew up another car - well maybe it's him. I probably wouldn't have said F**k off but the sentiment would have been the same. Obviously he thinks you owe him more than the transaction was worth. Chock it up to a lesson learned to keep friends and business separate.

Oh my Lord been there done this!!
Try to be nice to peeps only to be taken! There are those who think the world owes them. We had a free car at one point and time. It ran, I think it needed a new battery. But this as you know is nothing!
We let peeps know we had it and it ran when we parked it. With a saint Bernard and a English mastiff dogs, as well as a couple other dogs, three kids and Mr. stopped using this car when we bought a suburban. We told everyone this because it was true.
The things some of these peeps wanted us to do to and with this FREE car was ridiculous! Such as go buy a new battery, new tires, clean the car top to bottom there were some other things (it was a work car only so it needed cleaning). But it was FREE lol!
A good friend of ours said her and her hubby would take it and resale it (which was fine by us). Never did they ask these ridiculous "things" from us.
Anyhoo NO you were not wrong at all!

Nope you're not in the wrong. And if he was a good friend he would understand that.
Use it as a lesson though, don't sell anything to a work colleague or a friend. It nearly always ends up with an argument.

No ..how are you supposed to know it was to fail...
Suggest next time u sell a car to a friend ( so called ) get him to get a independant check done by the AA or RAC..
Unfortunately that's the risk u take when ever you sell something to a mate..

You were wrong to tell him to f**k off then. You should have done it when the power steering pump went!

nope. he might take offense and be mad but he is also taking advantage of u. in another situation with someone u didnt know u wouldnt take that kind of behavior so u shouldnt now. tell him that he should have done research if he felt he bought a bad car but after the deal is done its outta ur hands.

Are you a dealer?
If so then yes, you should have put a warranty on the car.
Of not then no, car was sold AS SEEN.

No you are not in the wrong. It was a contract and I imagine the vehicle was sold as seen with no warranty.
Tell him to get lost.

you werent in the wrong in the first place.
second hand cars, unless almost new have no warranty implied or given. you buy it as it is.
caveat emptor- buyer beware.
and its got nothing to do with did you make a profit or not...

Personally I would never sell anything to a friend, its too easy for it to end in tears, as you have just found out.
