Yuck! Always a icky problem to deal with.

I can suggest a couple problems it may be:

1) Your cat may have dingleberries. I know this sounds stupid, but sometimes, cats will eat hair they find lying around (mine certainly do this on a regular basis). Unfortunately, when it comes out the other end, they end up with poo-on-a-rope that often will not detach itself, and, in an effort to remove it, they will scoot around on their butt.

2) Your cat has worms. Tapeworms are generally the main culprit, but any kind of worm may cause butt dragging. It's caused when the cat ingests a tapeworm egg ESPECIALLY when you've just got over or are currently experiencing a flea problem (fleas eat tapeworm eggs and when your cat grooms the fleas off itself, it swallows a tapeworm egg by proxy) or if your cat is an outdoor cat and has a habit of eating small animals it catches. You will need to get a good wormer from your vet. You can usually get combination wormers in pill form which work marvelously and don't cost too much. Note however, that your worm problem will keep coming back during your flea infestation (if that is the problem), so you will need to worm the cats every 3 weeks until you have the flea problem well under control.

The cat may be suffering from worms? If it has not been wormed in the last 6 months get a dual wormer for the petstore this should fix it. If it is still doing it after being wormed take it to the vet

Sounds like your cat has worms. Make sure you worm your pets regularly, its easy these days, the worming syrup or granules can be mixed in with the food. I used Drontal from the vets, its quite expensive but works out cheaper for me in the long run, as I have 3 cats and a dog, and it can be used for both.

Hi there ...if your cat is scooting her bum on surfaces regularly the anal sacs will need to be expressed. This is something which should be done by a vet. Worms can also be a cause but in general it usually is as a result of the anal sacs the cat is trying to express.

How often does he do it? If it is every day / all the time i would get him wormed. If it is just accasionally he may just have a itchy bottom. Mine does it now and again and she has been de-wormed etc.
