Okay, I posted earlier about a swollen lymph node an inch above collar and I am freaking out that it is the supraclavicular region. I also had a bad cold, lots of sinus pressure, bad headache and swollen gland under jaw on one side. I took sudafed this morning, both areas of swelling went down, the one above collar bone and under jaw. If it was cancer, would a decongestant decrease the swelling? Could this just be a sinus infection and the lump is from that? Would it be that low? I am seeing a doctor and he took blood test, but I have to wait and are really freaking out....

I am in just quite the same situation. Had a cold weeks ago with swollen lymph nodes an inch above the collar on both sides of the neck and something swollen at the back of my tongue. I went to the docter and we decided to wait for the cold to go away. Now the swollen nodes on both sides of my neck went away - but the one on my tongue (near the tonsils) is still there. Just last Monday I had a biopt of that and will get the results soon.

Now back to you, Laura. I don't know if you're a cancer survivor (I am) - but if not, than realise HL and NHL are not that common and it might as well be the cold. Breathe. Very good of you to go to the doctor, though.
The following are signes of a lymph node reacting to an infection rather than cancer:
- the lymph node feels 'soft' rather than 'hard'
- the lymph node hurts or causes pain if you press it

I think it makes no sense that a simple decongestant would decrease the swelling. Only very stong things like prednison/dexamethason would be able to do so.

Hope this helps you. The very best to you, Rogier

Please don't panic over swollen lymph nodes especially if you know your body is fighting an infection. That is what lymph nodes do - help your body fight infection. If they stay swollen or swell more once the infection is cleared up then you may want to see a doctor.

My daughter had a very large swollen lymph node and she told her that they are normal, sometimes they can get large and they do take about 4-6 weeks to go down. If after one month the size hasn't reduced or if its larger after that time, then go see your doctor, but in the meantime, its ok, don't stress yourself.

YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE AN EAR NOSE AND THROAT INFECTION. I MYSELF GET THEM SWOLLEN GLAND'S AND IT IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. THE DOCTOR PROBABLY TOOK THE TEST TO SEE IF IT WAS GLANDULAR FEVER, YOU GET THE SAME SYMPTOMS,AND IT CAN RECUR.
