Hello. I graduated summa c um laude from Arizona State University in HUMAN NUTRITION and now I am in medical school. I have also studied a lot in herbalism, homeopathy, and alternative medicine in general (including fasting diets and supplements).

Fasting is frowned upon by people in nutrition. It tricks your body into thinking it is starving which lowers your metabolism. So, when you come off the fast, your body is "less efficient" at burning calories and tends to store whatever it can.

The only time in medicine when we like to you to fast is before certain kinds of medical procedures... Otherwise we try to feed patients whenever possible.

Don't bother with fasting. Its lame.

Regards,
Ryan

PS - Anyone saying that it "cleans your body of toxins" - please explain how this works. If anything, it depletes your stores of glycogen early and resorts to burning fat and muscles mass - which releases ketogenic compounds and nitrogen rich compounds into the blood (both of which can be toxic to the kidneys).

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.

1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day

2.) drink lots of water

3.)exercise every day

4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep.

it's EXTREMELY unhealthy. all though there are some peole who do it for a week for religous purposes. as far as using it for a diet it actually backfires because when you don't eat your metabolism slows down which means when you start to eat you gain even more weight because your metabolism is even slower burning off what you eat. plus you aren't getting any nutrition.

Fasting for 24 hours can be great for your body. It's like a detox. Just drink plenty of fluids and your system will get flushed out.

yeah. certainlyl. fasting cleanses your body from toxins. it allows your body fluids to clean the digestive system as well as your blood. so go and fast. :)

I PERSONALLY WOULD NOT FAST,DO NOT THINK IT IS GOOD FOR YOU. OUR BODYS NEED SUSTENANCE. A LOT OF PEOPLE DO FAST AS A WAY OF DETOXING THEMSELVES. I THINK THE BODY IS MADE TO DO THAT IT SELF.

no its not, an irregular diet cycle is bad for your stomach and you can get gastric. besides, not eating doesn't burn your fats, it burns your muscle mass.
