I have a friend that is extremely well off and donated through a charitable organization a cow. It was to be given to a village in Africa, cost a bit, but she was thrilled since the gift was given in her name. Another year, I donated money for a stone with her name on it to be included in the construction of a walkway for a veterinary hospital.

I think any gift that you can afford would be good. It's up to the person whose accepting it to appreciate what ever the gift is.
